Yessir. Im using a 136 Amp HO alternator, with the brackets provided in the Ebay link, with an HO AirCon bracket from a 96. I will of course have to wire in an external voltage regulator and grab a different belt.

I see you have the 89 renix, correct? Does this have the regulator in the alternator? Could be a stupid question. Reason I ask is I just did the external regulator mod to my 97 grand, huge difference. You can have all the alternator in the world but if the reg isnt charging (like I think most in the pcm do not) well, things arent going to go well. 12,0 volts at rest on the battery is about 0% charged.

Good to know.

Photo below is from my ‘96, the belt routing is very similar to my ‘89. With the yellow pulley deleted, and the blue pulley much smaller diameter, the green pulley has signifigantly less contact with the serp belt. From over 50% surface contact to less than 25%.

Also, what brand of alternator are you using?

Thanks!

i had the same issue. running electric fans, AC, and the winch about killed the jeep. picked up a 250 amp alt from ebay that dropped right in. works like a champ.

Still curious about the serp belt routing, but I ran across this photo of a RHD XJ. The alternator is mounted where the AC would be on LHD vehicles. Anyone know how to find a RHD part # for the alternator bracket? Is there a parts fische out there somewhere for RHD XJs?
