Just like every other XJ exhaust manifold, mine is cracked.
So I am looking for the best replacement exhaust manifold, for my 98 Jeep Cherokee.
I've been looking around but i just can't seem to find the right one.
Anyone know of a good replacement manifold?

I have a 2000 jeep Cherokee sport 4x4 and was worndering if I could put a metal mulisha exhuast tip on it with gibson exhaust

Gibson makes a cat-back exhaust system for the Jeep Cherokee - so yes.

Exhaust tips are pretty much "universal" and if they don't fit, it doesn't take much to modify the tailpipe to get it to fit - so yes.

I just replaced my head, new gaskets all around. Everything went together pretty smoothly but I seem to have a small exhaust leak from the back side of the engine on the manifold side. I'm guessing I didn't get the bolts back there tight enough. I torqued what I could to factory specs but there is no way I'm getting my torque wrench on some of those bolts.

How tight is too tight? The gasket is pretty sturdy, but I don't want to mess it up.

98 xj, 4.0 i6, new clearwater head.

I used a 9/16 gear wrench ratcheting wrench and pulled as hard as I could. Didn't pull the threads out or break anything. Actually just pulled my exhaust manifold back off because it wasn't sealing properly. Poorly designed aftermarket item. Not installation error.

I have a 2000 xj with 160k miles that i purchased new and have never changed any components of the exhaust system. I don't see any rust or cracks and is still pretty quiet but think maybe it's time to test the exhaust pressure.

My question is, if the meter test results in significant back pressure which cat do i need to change out, the two pre-cats or the main one under the body.. or both?

p.s. i'm in florida, no emission testing but want to keep it stock and the check engine light off.

I honestly have no idea how you'd isolate which of the 3 cats that would be causing an issue without pulling off each one and testing them individually since they all dump into one pipe. That being said, if you're going to that much trouble, you might as well just replace them anyway.

If you've put 160k miles on the Jeep without replacing any of the components, it wouldn't hurt to just go ahead and replace them... especially if you've noticed any drop in gas mileage.

Someone has probably already asked. My cat has that rattling noise inside. Can I just cut it open and pull the insides out and weld it back up with no problems? If so how loud does this make my jeep? I have a stock 96.

You can do that, but you won't pass emissions if your state has that, and I'm not sure what year they started putting an o2 sensor in/behind the cat, but you may get a check engine light also. I can't comment on the loud side of things. I did remove the cat from my Comanche, but it had a stock style muffler and I really didn't notice much difference especially when driving couldn't tell anything.

I'm not worried about emissions i just don't want the check engine light. Thanks for the help
