Just put a turn down after the muffler. That muffler is too long anyway for a side pipe.

 

Yesterday installed the resonator, at first no big difference, so removed the cat. And welded a straight 3" pipe insted of it, sound increased and sounds fine, but after driving a while I started to feel that the Cherokee lost some power, today I'm going to test drive a little more, then perhaps will reinstall the cat....

What is the input regarding This?

 

It's against forum rules to talk about cat removal.

 

3in pipe is too big. 2.5 or 2.25 is plenty.

 

He's talking about putting it back in... Which he should do.

 

Well I did it, I put it back, power is restored, resonator still in, but just a very little grunt.

Conclusion, nothing like stock muffler...

 

Resonator changes the sound/tone not quiet down.

 

Hey guys. Just got my cherokee "road worthy" at least I thought. Saw a "minor crack" in my header and thought i could delay a little. Put some sea foam in throttle body and it looked like I had Cheech and chong under the hood instead of a engine. Replacing the whole exhaust system and putting a 2000 xj intake on too. I ordered a new exhaust manifold from speed daddy and want to buy the performance curve cat back flow master. What do I need in between the muffler and the header to maximize mpg and have a decent sound that's not over kill. I was originally looking at a flow master cat as well. What do you think?
I appreciate any help, been trying to figure it out since Saturday but keep getting lost.

The Super 44 might be a little too much noise for some. It's not obnoxious by any stretch, but your neighbors will hear a deep humming sound when you fire it up in the morning. Sorry, couldn't think of another way of describing the sound from inside the house. haha

It's been a great setup for us so far.

 

Thanks for the reply. Noise isnt such a big deal as far as neighbors because everyone has either an atv or motorcycle. My biggest confusion was how or why i would get from 2.125 as most manifolds say is the outlet to the 2.5" cat.
So i guess its 2.125 to front pipe, front pipe enlarges to 2.5 and so forth?

In my newbie-ness, I just followed others' lead from the forum. XJ is at home, so I'll have to take another peek at the inlet side of the cat when I get home. Can't remember off the top of my head what the exhaust shop did.

By the way, from a value & overall satisfaction standpoint, major props to Performance Curve.

Anything I need to know? Buddy is helping pull the top end to get to it, intake, etc. Gonna start spraying down my engine attachment points. Just replaced my motor mounts so I should be good on that end...

 

Nice, link says they're out of stock, but for that price it looks pretty good.

 

Would I be better off with a Dorman replacement that has those flex pipes? Just looking for longevity, but not sure if either would be better.

 

Cant decide......an offer from someone that has a fully welded thrush muffler with a high flow direct fit Magna flow Cat 75$ no tail pipe

or i can get the flow master 40 with a tailpipe and exhaust off of performance curve. I have done sound tests online. But i really can't make a decision that way off of the web. So what do you guys think??? what sounds better. i want a deep more throaty and loud but not obnoxious loud .Loud enough that you hear me coming around the corner.
