That counts, I also want to wrap my headers and downpipe when I can afford the Banks setup. try and keep underhood temps as low as possible.

My XJ isn't just a trail rig, it tows my sleds and jetskis as well. So anything to give her the extra bump is power and cooling helps.

Thats good, I also have the 85 new yorker hood vents so my under hood temps stay low, I thermal wrapped mine for the performance you know how the header sits right under neath the intake manifold so the header dont heat up the intake so bad. Now I can actually touch the intake manifold without getting 3rd degree burns.also like about a week ago the outside temps where -7 with wind chills so I did some e-way driving when I was done my TB & C.A.I was ICE COLD! My intake manifold was cool to the touch

Yeah sadly the biggest downfall to the 4.0s performance is the headers being right under the intake. These things make wicked heat, I thought of making a shield out of some stainless sheet I have to reflect heat away from the intake.

I also plan on doing the same but I seen this thermal blanket/sheet at pep boys for 39.99. I plan on giving it a try, the colder the air temps the engine sucks in the more HP/TQ it makes

Ok Exhaust Guru's...

I have a cracked stock manifold/Header on a 1999 4.0

If I put an aftermarket Header on

A High Flow Cat

A Super 44

Do I need a tune so I does not run lean, or can I just bolt it up
and be good to go...?

Any suggestions on Headers and Cats?

Can I just leave the OEM Cat and go with just the header and muffler?

Will

So, my exhaust system is falling apart; the headers are fine, I think, but everything back is on its way out. I'm looking to upgrade all this at once, but am a bit at a lose when it comes to exhaust. The XJ already rumbles pretty good with the stock system but I wouldn't mind louder. However, I don't want 'blown muffler' loud, more like 'ram diesel' loud; deep and aggressive. I'd also like to gain some ground clearance as my present set up is fated to get ripped off by a rock in the near future. Within a lower price range would be nice; I'd rather be putting the money towards other thing but... Opinions and advise would be great!

Gibson makes a good header, get a universal magna flow cat and 40 or 44 I like the 44. Also upgrade to a 2.5" tailpipe

Maganflow version of the glass pack, or any magnaflow. The super 44 will give you a deep tone. Imo

My opinion if its not a v8 the flowmaster is not ment for the i6 due to its chamberd design, way too glopy. I put a magnaflow on it and its music to my ears a perfect tone and does not sound nasty. Also the magnaflow is made of stainless steel so if you want the perfect tone and durability & long life? Magnaflow%100!

My current setup is a banks revolver header, 2 1/2" catless exhaust system from collector to the muffler and dumps at the muffler and it sounds just like my jeep looks, MEAN!

This was my old set up it has the banks header & magnaflow muffler the rest is still the stock set up, I would have to make a new video of my new set up but just so all of ya'll can get an idea on how a magnaflow muffler sounds on a i6
