i bought a borla header from a 93 cherokee at a junk yard for 10 bucks but it says it will only fit from 93 - 97 http://www.quadratec.com/products/77601_802_07.htm 93 -97 xj

it looks to be the same but will it not work because of where o2 sensor is or just the way the exhaust was designed so on my 98 the header bolts on exhaust and the 93 appears to clamp on or weld on

Dont know about the o2 sensor location but you could have the correct flange for your downpipe welded onto the header for cheap

 

I was told that high flow cats will trip check engine lights on OBDII vehicles. I don't recall seeing a O2 sensor in my 2001's cat and the cats from performance curve say they are 100% OBDII EPA legal. So my question is basically will a high flow cat cause me a headache or was that guy throwing out bad info.

Along the same lines, will a high flow cat make that much difference if I still have stock headers and downpipe?

The obdII cat on there should work perfectly. Thing is newer stock cats are basically high flow. The ones that are restrictive are the old pellet style.

 

So the gain will not be that great? Am I better off saving the money and just getting a 2.5" muffler and tailpipe? I don't want an obnoxiously loud exhaust but I do want something a more aggressive and efficient.

 

Probably. All monolith converters are high flow. You'll see little if any gain unless you want to go to a 2.5 inch converter. Then it might be worth it

 

The cat I am looking at is 2.5 and for 35 bucks I don't think I can really go wrong. Thanks for the help.

Does your header have cats on it? Does it have 02 sensors in the cats? How many 02 sensors on the header thats in your jeep currently?
As far as high flow cat fooling with the computer..I know thats 100% bull! Our 96 has a highflow cat, a thorley header, and no exhaust lol..its dumped right after the cat..no issues at all!

If theres only 1 then yes you can use the 93-97 version on your jeep. I believe your issue is that you have the y-pipe downpipe setup, while the 91-96 cherokees don't..
The header bolts up with no issue thought..no difference in the flange thickness or bolt pattern! Go back to the junkyard and buy the 91-96 HO downpipe..it'll bolt to the header & that downpipe will bolt to your exact..simple.

 

I have a question.

Lots of talk about upgrading to 2.5" pipe from before the cat, on back. What is the point of this if you have a stock header and the stock s-pipe from header to cat is crush bent? Seems like you'd have upgrade the header and s-pipe too or am I over thinking?
