It'll be fine. If you do it yourself, the new header will cost $150+. Try to get the APN one, it's 321 stainless steel for around $160.

Default Headers?

Looking for the best flow and performance gains from a header with the best bang for my buck!

Also, a 2.5" flowmaster system all the way back will give me a good sound, but not illegally loud, yes?

I'm about to install everything from the cat back. The cat I bought is a little shorter than stock, but I have extra pipe to make up the difference. Will there be any difference between if I put the pipe in front of the cat versus behind it?

If you can, try and find a stock one to replace it. The apn header is heavy duty, and currently out of stock I believe. if you are doing it yourself its not too bad, probably a 3 or 4 on a scale to 10. Driving with a cracked header isn't neccissarily bad, it will affect your mpg's a bit and you might be able to smell it from areas other than the exhaust end if it is really bad.

Well my exhaust rotted off again. Also found the cat cracked almost all the way around the inlet and outlet welds...that I had re welded once before.

So here's my question, now that I have my new parts, anyone ever use hi-temp paint on their exhaust? Maybe to help keep it from rusting away from the salt and exhaust leaks around the connections.

No reason it shouldn't work. Give it a shot and post a pic.

Will do. gonna make all my connections and hanger welds, then hit it with hi-temp...I think the paint is good for 1500 degrees. So under heavy load it may burn off the cat.

I'm thinking about this too, is why I'd like to see pix, and see a followup after it's been on for a couple of drives.

Yeah I've never heard or seen anyone paint there exhaust before, but I do it on the snowmobiles and those 2 strokes make some hot exhaust. And the FM40 is painter black, so i figured I'd try it. Will let you guys know how it works out.
