Sorry mate, I live in South Africa, where it is perfectly legal. I was not aware that question may infuriate some forum members . You see, out here a new cat costs R12 500, about 900 dollars I guess. So yea, we remove them.
I guess this means no one knows the answer .. I will keep you updated

Haha my bad, is your location listed on the left? I can't see that stuff on my iPhone app. Is what it is I guess! That's ridiculously priced tho.....

And frankly, the whole illegal to remove Cat thing is mandated by US federal law

Your check engine light should come on.

Yep the engine light is on anyway. We have guys selling Catfoolers out here which solves the problem in most models.
I would say only about 3% of the SA population actually knows what a Cat is - an this certainly does not include the morons making the laws. Enough on all that then before I get deleted. Thanks for your input.

If its not illegal where you are from then its ok to talk about it. I'm all for cats myself. The new deigns don't restrict flow much and they really clean up the air. If you're worried about it plus size the pipe a little. but for your original question the cel should be the only issue you have.

How will I know when it's time for a new muffler? Mines dented and rusted and now I think is rattling. So swap it?

Will my exhaust be quieter if I run the system all the way out like stock? I cut mine after the cat, put a flowmaster 40 on it and dumped down right at the rear axle and its LOUD! Lol

Default New question regarding tail pipe routing

Forgive me for not reading the first 145 pages of this thread. Last wheeling trip I stuffed my tail pipe "camel hump" up and forward causing it to melt my shock boot and also come into contact with my e-brake cable melting the sheathing. I want to put on a new tail pipe but keep it out of the way of rocks and such. I was thinking about just cutting it off right after the muffler but I read about too many problems with that setup. What about cutting it off right after the hump? I was thinking that the pipe would come down the back side of the "hump" and just end. The exhaust would go over the hump then straight down to the ground. I don't think my gas tank would be in danger of overheating. She is an 87 and came with a pretty stout gas tank cover. Also, it's back past the rear axle. Would the fumes still be a problem by in the cab?

If those ideas are worthless, does anyone have another idea that doesn't involve buying aftermarket exhaust systems. Has anyone else successfully re-routed their stock exhaust to keep it safe from wheeling?

P.S. I searched for about an hour and found tons of posts about exhaust upgrades, cat-back replacements, header repair/replacement, removing the dent in the down tube, and the cons of cutting your tail pipe right after the muffler. Although, I did find one post that talked about routing the tail pipe through the rear quarter panel. I'd like to consider that "Plan ZZ".

Thanks!

Default exhaust modd........

soooo i have a 1997 jeep cherokee, has the stock cat, and muffler. I want to put a high flow cherry bomb muffler on her, and after inspection remove the cat. There is the O2 sensor on the cat, im sure that removing the cat will trigger off the check engine light< so does anyone know a way of removin the cat, w/o triggerin the dam light?? Thanks guys.
