i know the whole cat thing is frowned upon here to talk about or what ever, but my 2001 has the two small ones on the header , and then the third one before the muffler. so whats the problem with taking off the third?

so your saying even if its not on the street i need it? how is that different than say a top fuel dragster? that is never run on the street and clearly doesn't have a cat.
edit: i see what your saying now i didn't read your post correct. so trail rig only=ok? (from a legal standpoint not cf standpoint?)

I am new to Jeep thing and just got my new XJ, planning on building a custom exhaust for it.
What I was thinking is running a 2.5 pipe from cat back and since mine is a '94 I no longer need to pass emissions in WA state so my plan is to run a straight through pipe instead of a cat and a magnaflow or flowmaster muffler.
Now here is my question. Am I going to have enough back pressure with that set up? I want to get extra power but more importantly better gas mileage.
Also, I dont want my car sounding like a rice rocket, what muffler would you suggest I use? I want a quieter deeper sound. Not having a cat is already going to increase the noise so I need an extra quiet muffler to compensate for the lack of the cat.

Do the manifold yourself if you can. That's where all of that money's going. My exhaust only cost $140 for the piping and labor.

Lol thats what most shops do they buy for market price and jack up the cost...sucks for ppl who cant work on their own stuff. Or freaking old lady Jenkins who knows nothing about cars and her vehicle started making a ticking sound...and gets robed blind.
If u cant tell I dont trust shops. Not even to change my tires lol.
