What does it matter if the stock shackles are "tiny".

I'm on a Rough Country 3" with AAL's and 33's.

Default Rough country 4.5 x-series

Hey guys. New to CF and lifts in general. Have a quick question that has probably been covered about a zillion times. So here I go. Well I have a 2000 Jeep XJ that I daily drive and was wondering if I install a RC 4.5 x-series kit. Will I lose highway drive ability. Also I don't want to regear and would like to run wider tires rather than larger. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You'll be fine on the highway. Might want to upgrade to a long arm kit though for better handling. Depending on your axels you should be able to run 33-35s without regearing from what I can gather.

With a RC 4.5" lift, you can run 33s easily. With significant trimming, you could run 37s or even 40s. In my opinion, a 4.5" lift is overkill if you don't plan to regear. I think the tire sizes that look appropriate on that size of lift will not perform well with factory gearing.

Thanks guys. And after taking into consideration. 4.5 would look really unproportional to the tires I have in mind. Thanks NewKindOfClown. Could anyone point me in the direction of a quality 3-3.5 lift that doesn't kill my wallet.

A 4.5" lift with 32's or 31's wouldn't involve trimming, would get you a bigger tire size, and wouldn't be a killer on the gears.

Talk to the vendors on the forum, they usually have really good prices. Rubicon Express is usually the recommended one so I'll toss that name out there. Go to their website, find a lift then head on over to the vendors forum and pm the guys selling them to compare prices.

This is good info, but check out Zone Offroad if RE is out of your price range.

Not on a Grand Cherokee. You have those silly coil things in the rear.

I don't know if there's ZJ stuff in here, but it might help:

If you only want a budget boost, you could do spacers at all four corners. I'm not familiar with your rear suspension setup, though, so I don't know if it's that simple.
