Well budget of getting a 4x4 is not of reason right now. So doing some minor work like lifting it and tires is best for me. Id like a 4x4 its just not in the picture right now. Ive got a small but decent budget to spend on a lift i just needed to know what is best for the price and what to avoid for 2wd

 

How do you calculate gas mileage properly with 31" tires? I have a 1992 auto so guessing i have 3.55's if that means anything. I know the speedo and odometer will be slightly off now which is shy im asking.

 

Simple math. Drive down the interstate and use the mile markers. See what you odometer says after ten miles or so to get an accurate correction factor. To get your correction factor, take the number of actual miles you drove and divide that by what your trip meter says (ex. 10 actual miles/ 8 trip meter miles = 1.25 correction factor). After you've done that, use your trip meter to track how many miles from full to empty, multiply the trip meter reading by your correction factor to get the actual miles driven. Then divide that by how many gallons it takes to fill your tank.

Or...change your speedo gear then track the mileage.

its double the price of the 3'' lift if it comes with the shocks. do you guys think 150 is a good price for all four shocks? i was thinking about calling napa and seeing the price for new shocks from them but if i just say i have an 89 cherokee they will give me the size i have now. what do i tell them so they know that i need bigger shocks? or do i say a different type of vehicles shocks?

 

how high can I go before I have to get longer front sway bar links? Im at 2 inches now, looking to go another 2..

 

After much debate I finally purchased a cheap 2" budget lift for $90 off of ebay. It has the spacers and shackles. If you want to know why I decided that route just ask.

My question is how do you install the shackles? Am I going to have to take the u-bolts off and drop the axle before unbolting the rear leaf eye or can I just put a jack under the axle on the side I am working on, unbolt the rear leaf eye, and let the jack down enough to drop the leaf spring and bolt in the new shackle?

Yes there are jack stands under the frame prior to doing the work

 

Yes, just make sure your axel is supported, front wheels chocked (to prevent any forward movement of vehicle) and then take the rear leaf spring bolts and old shackle bolts out. Your gonna have to wrestle the leafs a tad to line up bolts on new shackles but that's it.

If I "temporarily" use a sagging top xj leaf in an s10 bastard pack, what is the most likely outcome? Just lower lift, or garanteed breakage?

While Im posting, I figure I should shoot out my plan and see if there are any comments.

First off, Im currently sitting on 34" TSLs with no lift. I had been planning on just bumpstopping a little to keep the tires from hitting (already knocked my floorboards and seams up so it hardly rubs, but this is a trail only rig and a good slap will push the tire into the wheelwell). I have already spaced.the steering stops to keep the tires from rubbing the lca. Removed front sway bar, will.remove rear. Trimmed fenders and no issues there. Other than slight bumpstopping it could go out on trail.

I had hoped.to do zero lift just because it hasnt really been done very much, and I have been taking lines in stock config the last two years that make others in lifted rigs cringe (sidehill like mad). I like it. As my rear springs are sagging now and my front coils are looking tired, Im going to have to do something anyway, and would like more belly clearance anyway, so Im going for a 2-3 inch range lift. Im going to look at ZJ coils or possibly something my cousin suggested: chevy astro, if they measure out. Havent heard anything about it. Rear Im probibly going with the s10 bastard pack as MJs are rare enough.

My above.question stems from the point that there are few XJs around here that DONT have sagging leaves. Both of my driveable.jeeps are frowning and if my parts jeep has good ones they are.going on my DD. If Im buying new I may as well get.lift springs new I figure, but for now want to keep the mod bill as low as possible for kicks (Im wierd).

Any thoughts?

The easiest way would be to jack up the truck, put two jack stands in front of the front leaf bolts, put a jack under the rear diff, disconnect the u-bolts and drop the whole axel.
That way you don't have to fight the leafs as much and bother with moving the jack. When you're done do not fully tighten the leaf bolts (front and back) until the truck is under its own weight.

 

the 5 lug on your jeep would be a 5-4.5 a ford ranger and ford explorer/ mazda b series trucks are the same. but a ranger/explorer 5 lug is a different size then the f15o and the bronco's

 

I have come into a two of 315/65/r15 tires mud tires that are in decent shape. I have looked on line and cannot find any used. What would be a comparable size? maybe 31x12x15. Any help is appreciated. Also, will these fit under a 2 inch lift?
