Thanks, vandelden. Yeah I've looked around and it does look really nice. What I don't get is how everyone is so against AALs yet so pumped on bastard packs. Isn't it the same concept, but with newer, not used springs?

And I can live with the crappy gearing in order to enjoy the 5speed. For now.

Yes and no. I believe aals are just one leaf to give the height. So basically you have that one leaf fighting to lift while all the others want to push against it so it wears quickly. *correct me if im wrong someone*
If your just wanting a 2" lift id get 2" shackles it'll only give 1" rear but I like the slightly lowered rear look.
And the 5 speed is nice that jeep had a ax15.

You're not wrong, just not the whole concept.

Aal's are often referred to as "band aid lifts". Reason being is this: your stock leaf packs are most likely sagging to below stock ride height. When you add a new leaf that is supposed to add more than stock ride height, the entire weight of the vehicle is on this new leaf. It can't take the weight of the vehicle or more for very long, so it sags below the new ride height or lower.

The reason bastard packs are different is because you generally add more than one leaf to the original pack, and generally you use leaves with better (higher) spring rates so the pack works together with each leaf to create a very modular and cheap lift.

so if I were to bump up my sagging rear leafs what could I do to stop that from making my AAL smaller then a 3"? I hear a lot of people are doing s10 bastard pack if anyone could go into detail that would be helpful.

Give this a once over there is lots of good information here and its exactly what ill be doing with my own rig. Im going to use two Cherokee leaf springs to mix and match plus shackles. Gonna be a nice flexy jeep once done

Hey guys. After doing some research I'm leaning towards 33x10.5x15 on 15x8 wheels. Have a 4 1/2" lift. Only thing I'm undecided on is which type tire.a/t or m/t. It won't be a d.d. But I don't want the loud road noise either. Will be doing some rock climbing so any recommendations . I'll also be needing to do some fender trimming so how would I figure out how much to take out

KM2's would Be a great choice mine are quiet and they do great on rocks and snow covered rocks/trails I don't wheel in mud so cant say how they do on mud. I'm running a 33x10.50 on a 15x8 on a 3.5" lift. I will say I have Goodyear AT's on my Yj that are louder then the KM2 and I've taken out sidewalls on the goodyears on mild trails where the xj's km2's sidewalls I've folded over sharp rocks with no punctures.

I like my KM2's as well.
It was wet last time I went out an they still did good. This place is all a bunch of loose rock and trails.

X3 on the km2s. Me will and Tom all run the same size. I've had them in mud, and they did fine. They do great on rock too.

Thanks for the input guys. I believe they are all mud terrain tires? Truck came with swampers and they are extremely loud and vibrate good. Hopefully these aren't half as bad.4" offset sound right?
