Default Rustys Off Road Lift?

Hey guys I have a 2000 xj sport and I am thinking on ordering a rustys off road 4.5 inch lift. I comes with :
PRICE**669.99

• Front 4.5" coil springs
• Rear 4.5" leaf springs**
• Fixed front lower control arms
• Front hydro performance shocks
• Rear hydro performance shocks
• Adjustable track bar
• Front Sway Bar Drop Kit
• Transfer case drop kit
• Brake line extension kit
• Grade 8 U-Bolts
• 6 degree shims
I was told I would need a SYE but this kit comes with a transfers case drop, so would that replace me needing SYEs? Also wondering what else I would need besides all this in your guy's opinions. Any other lifts that are better deals or brands that are better than this? Thanks

No, you need to contact Rusty, tell him you want to throw the T-case drop kit in the trash can and replace it with an SYE. Then find a front drive shaft from an XJ and put it in the rear.

T-case drops are bandaids that cause other issues.

Im just curious as to the reasoning of using a front driveshaft in the rear. I would think they would be shorter obviously this is wrong would you mind to briefly explain the reasoning?

Go look under your ZJ and you can tell the front shaft is longer. Same thing for an XJ. You use a front driveshaft because it has a double cardan and cv joint which has to be used when doing a SYE.

How can they be? all they are really is spacers that drop it a little. Almost every lift I have seen have them and they don't get problems from them.

SYE is the correct long-term solution, however a lot of guys run TC drops in the interim until they get around to doing the SYE. If its in your budget ask to upgrade to the SYE. If not, put in the TC drop for now.

Ask them to take out the sway bar drops too.


I would get new brake lines at that height, not just extensions. I would also recommend the 3" leaves and a shackle with 4* shims and not 6*'s

This^ take lowrange2's advice about the t case drop too, it ****s up your motor mounts, makes your exhaust vulnerable to rocks, and in my case, I pulls the down stream o2 sensor wire tight as ****.

Not if you shop around. You can use brake hoses off of other vehicles, will knows which ones.

Would the transfer case drop be fine temporary? A year or so?

I'm thinking on getting this kit and installing everything and change all the B grade things a litttle after. Or would that be horrible?

It's gonna **** up your motor mounts, I have one and highly regret putting it on. It will probably work up to about a 5 inch lift, any higher and a sye is mandatory. My jeep still vibrates a little with a t case drop and 4* shims at 4" of lift, but every jeep is different when it comes to drive line issues.

Everyone should agree that the SYE is the better option. A t case drop has downsides but will work. Is it long term, No. You can do whatever you want but in our opinion it is a waste of $30.

You can use that $30 to buy your brake lines.
