Default airbags

might be a dumb question but is there any way to disengage the airbags while off roading. I have a 1999 cherokee sport with driver and passenger airbags. Is it just a fuse or is it more internal than that

You can pull the fuse, pull the bag & replace when you get home, pull the bag & unplug the unit, relpace & reconnect when you get home.

I'd just pull the fuse.

I have been thinking about this also. My Cherokee doesn't get driven on the street anymore and I was nervous a few times about the bags going off while on the trail... Are they easy to pull out?

It is also a good idea to disconnect the battery when playing around with air bags and fuses to the air bags. : )

Bags are easy. The driver bag has 2 8mm bolts holding it on the wheel. The pass. has about 10 philips head screws holding the cover on & then some bolts holding the bag in the dash.

It wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery but I personnally don't see the diff. in that or pulling the fuse.

No power is no power.

Be warned......the bags have stored electrical energy & COULD deploy.
It's best to wait 15 min. after disconnecting power before you mess with the bags.

I've never seen an airbag deploy on the trail.

Leave it alone.

If you do happen to pull the airbags out, be very careful of how you handle them. Static electricity can set them off, so don't go sliding them across the seat.

It's not a bad idea, although iv heard of jeeps rolling down hills and the air bags not going off. Itd still make me feel better kowing I won't get smashed in the face while off roading

is the fuse in the relay box under the hood or somewhere else in the cab. I looked at the box under the hood and didnt see anything that was marked as airbags. I would imagine this would be the easiest way to disengage them rather than pull the bags. still want them for on road driving. Anybody got pics of where the fuse is?

I believe the airbag fuses are the last 2 (10 amp) fuses in the fuse block in the passenger side kick panel.

Suppose you don't pull the right fuse or don't pull all of them. You think there's no power to it then you break your face on an air bag that you didn't think had power on it.

I'd also suggest you go watch some youtube videos of airbags exploding. It's a lot of fun.

Bump.

Why try and pinch the line when you can just turn off the water.

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!
