96 Cherokee auto to manual trans
Got a friend of mine that is going from an automatic A340 to a manual 5 speed. I'm asking if anyone has done this kind of modification and what they recommend.
Find a parts jeep so you can get all the parts you need at once.Look for one thats been wrecked and still runs or they blew up the motor.Take off all the parts you need and part out/scrap the rest of it.

This is the only way to get all the parts he needs to do the swap and the other XJ need to be complete in all connection areas.
Or better yet just keep the AW4 trans and have a better transmission to boot.
I think he's talking about the trans that came behind 4 bangers or other older engines

Thanks for the reposts. He's got the 4.0 HO. Is the AW4/A430 a well built trans for a Jeep? The one we took out is missing a clutch disc. Looks like it either blew one up or someone rebuilt it and double stacked the steels. He's just looking for other options
People swear by the AW4, but it's the only source of mechanical failure I've had with mine. Well over 200K on the 4.0 and it's nearly perfect, but I'm on my second AW4 and it still has occasional hiccups. I always wished mine had a manual.
