Is a 89 xj transmission interchangeable with a 93 xj
I'm wondering if I can put a 89 auto transmission into my 93 Cherokee which is also automatic? Thank you in advance

No, spline count on your output shaft is different between those years. If you retained the 90 and older tcase with your 88 trans then potentially yes? It would come down to the trans harness plugs matching up which I don't recall that side of this situation

So if I use my 93 transfer case with the 89 tranny it will work? Or am I not picking up what your saying? Thank you in advance

Will not work. In the 90-91 year change they changed the spline count on the back of the trans - this also changed the input spline count on the tcase.
The early trans/tcase setups are 21 spline and the later were 23 spline.

Your 88 trans or tcase having 21 spline input/output shaft cant run with the 93 trans or tcase.
