93 or 89 octane in a 5.9 Jeep ?
So the manual says 91 octane, no gas station sells 91 anymore where i live. Do i use 89 or 93 octane ? Is either safe, or hard on gas mileage ? Do i need to reprogram the computer or something ? Its just something i read so i dont know.

I figure since 91 octane is only two levels down and 93 is only two levels up, it won't make a difference as to what you fill up with. Personally, I'd just go with the 89 octane. I've never seen premium gas being used in a Grand Cherokee with the 360, so just go with what's economical especially with how gas prices are right now

[QUOTE=Bustedback;703151]Crappy gas mileage and 30 cents mor a gallon, I'll stick with my weak 4.0 QUOTE]
My ZJ gets 18 MPG on the highway and can tow 5,000 lbs. with the factory hitch, and w/the heavy duty cooling system never overheats, even towing with the AC on.
So I can tow your "weak 4.0" after it overheats and breaks down.

My ZJ has a normal radiator, not like a XJ. Sadly my weak 4.0 gets the same gas mileage as your 5.9, I'll call you I need a tow. LOL

What if you have a 5.9 and a 4.0 0.o ? We have both, and yes the 5.9 does get crappy gas mileage around 13.1 for me in the city, not sure in the highway yet. Our 4.0 in the same city gets around 16 or so, thats not much of a diff, but after the whole tank is gone on both Jeeps its around 70 miles more.
I have a Sheetz Gas station where i live tho, and its got cheap Premium Gas, there 87 is around 2.60, and the 89 is 2.75, and 93 is 2.85. Compared to other stations that are like 2.60-2.89-3.00.
I never showed you guys my 5.9 yet did I ? Here are some pictures, pics dont really show it like it looks in person. The paint is flawless and the platinum color with those metalic sparkles look really nice in the sun. Leather seats in the back are like new, and the front are in good condition.

My 5.2 never gets anything less than 91 octane. I get upwards of 500+ miles on a single tank with it (23-25 mpg).
Budweiser: those are specific to the 98 5.9. Hard to find and expensive when you do. Good luck.

You sure you have a 5.9 ? I was under the impression ALL 5.9 came standard with every option, this is the first time ive heared of a 5.9 not having a sunroof. I would look carefully and see if you have a real 5.9 and not another Jeep body with a 5.9 put in it.
Its not hard to change the rims , replace the hood tailpipe and say its a 5.9
That 500 miles a tank, you probably do nothing but drive on the freeway right ? Cause otherwise i wouldnt belive you get that kinda gas mileage in the city with a 5.2, not even a 4.0 can do that in the city

Yes they did make the 5.9 with the sunroof delete. Very few were made with this option. There are more than just the hood, tailpipe, and wheels to the 5.9s. They had different grilles, roof racks, fold down center arm rest in the rear, rocker panel moldings, leather wrapped shifters and door trim. Also came with a rear soundbar and the obvious 360 with e-fan.
No it is not strictly hwy driving. It is mixed city and hwy. My 97 4.0 gets 21-23 mixed city and hwy mileage. Sure I can make my 5.2 get less than 10 mpg.

yeah 10 to the gallon sounds right for me. i like to hear my engine. but i go with 93 octane once you use it you'll notince big difference. so how do you get that mileage country boy. i took my 5.2 on family vacation texas to florida and only managed 19 to the gallon. of course when you factor in the fact that i was doing 75 it makes sense.
