Okay well to start, i just replaced the steering box, was leaking and sloppy. Ive seen the thread post about the right angles in steering is a big issue but im not a pro at this stuff! on the pic below the highlighted area is where i think im having my problem, when i steer it seems to rotate the steering rod before it even turns the wheel, in both left and right directions leaving me with an extreme amount of play, feels very dangerous when driving it, if this is the problem, how do i fix it?! links to web sites? info? anything please! ive had this jeep for 2 years, havent been able to drive it much due to this problem. help! ... there is just a red 1 in the pic, above the circle , ignore please

thats for a grand but same idea...may even be same box....i dont think ive ever driven an XJ with tight responsive steering most just learn to live with it but as shown above you could attempt to adjust it but id only do so if your confident...remember your dealing with your steering here so a mild **** up could become a serious issue.

i was going to suggest upgrading the steering but it looks like you have done that already.

i ran into the same issue when i installed my r.r. hd steering. posted about it, and got a reply about this product, it stops the roll caused by the tre's. i haven't tried it, but you may wanna give it a try, they are pretty cheap

put one at each wheel, see how that works, then maybe one at the connecting tre

They make a bushing that goes inbetween the tre's and the knuckle.

I had the same problem, and at first thought it was just the ball joint since it was already known to be bad when I got it. replaced it, and same thing. I also put a new steering stabilizer on it, which I know is a band-aid, but heelped me tell if it was the steering box or tie-0rod stuff. turned out something was bad with the tie-rod ends, my tie-rod was bent, and steered like ****, so I replaced the entire steering set-ep below the pitman arm. She steers a lot better, and no play, and with so many things wrong, it was just easier to do it all at once. I have an 88 Laredo...

Bushings on order, was looking into this, and this hopefully will make it much better( if not fix it completely), thanks for the info!, everything else has been replaced allready, looked like i just needed to add. thanks for the help!

steering fixed! installed the bushings on each side of the TRE's steers VERY nice and safe now thanks you !!!
