4.0 change out to chevy v8
I need extreme advice.I have a 92 jeep cherokee and the 4.0 is constantly giving me trouble and I want to change the 4.0 out for a small block chevy. Will I need an adaptor to connect it to my factory tranny, and if so what kind?

Yes you will need an adapter for the tranny. Why not swap the tranny at the same time to a GM unit? TH350, TH400 or 700R4. The R4 has overdrive if you spend anytime on road you will appreciate the extra gear. Advance adapters will have the engine to tranny adapter that you need.

If the small block is built at all the stock tranny won't hold up, neither will the axles. Plan on all new mounts, radiator, motor, tranny, possibly t-case and axles. Plus all the little things that go with putting a motor somewhere it wasn't made for.

How much trouble can a 4.0 give you that would be more trouble than doing a drivetrain swap?
