Wink XJ vs Bronco

Can a well modified XJ outperform one of those new Broncos off-road?

beat it at what? Fuel economy? NOPE.

But seriously, you would need to define some serious terms. It's like I tell my kids, if you make up a game, but nobody knows or understands the rules, then nobody is going to have fun.

So OK, a more serious answer is maybe. It depend on what kind of off road you are talking. The Bronco will ride nicer, better fuel economy, more acceleration and nicer interior. But if you get real serious, the XJ will leave it behind as soon as the steering goes south on it

Yes easily, very few vehicles can match a well modified XJ off road, I have gone places on mine with 35s that newer Jeep Wrangler Rubicons on 37-40" tires couldn't without winching.

With the $40-50k you will spend on a Bronco, you could build four XJs that would leave them behind.

No offense, but you could spend 40-50k on 3 questionable "stock" condition XJ's on bring a trailer alone, so...

Saying that, all joking aside...it's more than apples and oranges.

The new Bronco swept the podium at KOH this year. That alone is an accomplishment. But the everyman challenge had several cherokees that placed well, and even the damn side by sides had impressive showings, throughout ALL the classes.

Is the new Bronco impressive? Sure. Is the Cherokee impressive? Damn straight. Are side by sides capable? Obviously.

Pick one. Drive and maintain it. Wheel the **** out of it. At the end of the day, it's the well maintained rigs with talented drivers sitting on a podium. Or around the campfire. Whatever.

Maintain your ****, drive wisely.

IMHO I would rather wheel a 20 year vehicle that I have restored than one that is looks like everyone else that just came off the one that is going to depreciate. Just my .02
