XJ vs Bronco
Sounds simple enough. But its not.
I would think that depends on whats been done because "well modified" can mean different things to different people. Would it not? Are we talking well modified XJ vs a stock Bronco, or modified Bronco? Would that even matter? And what kind of off-roading, exactly? That can mean different things to different people as well. Off-roading to some means dirt trails and crossing streams that maybe nothing more than ankle deep. For others it means rock crawling, crossing streams with water pouring into the footwells, or trails that would swallow whatever it was they were driving.

With ANY vehicle you choose, it all comeds down to "How deep are your pockets?" or "How big is you bank account balance?" With enough time and money, you can build whatever you want to be better. Hell, I could design and fabricate a solid axle swap for my XK Commander and be better then most if I wanted to. BUT....money doesnt always mean the best or better, sometimes knowledge and skill plays a big factor. My stock height AWD XK did better then 60% of the new JT's on this years "obstacle course". (They got beat by a "station wagon".
) Just build whatever YOU want and enjoy it.

Saying that, all joking aside...it's more than apples and oranges.
The new Bronco swept the podium at KOH this year. That alone is an accomplishment. But the everyman challenge had several cherokees that placed well, and even the damn side by sides had impressive showings, throughout ALL the classes.
Is the new Bronco impressive? Sure. Is the Cherokee impressive? Damn straight. Are side by sides capable? Obviously.
Pick one. Drive and maintain it. Wheel the **** out of it. At the end of the day, it's the well maintained rigs with talented drivers sitting on a podium. Or around the campfire. Whatever.
Maintain your ****, drive wisely.
