I'd take a 22R on propane over a 4.0 with a marlin dual case yes for a trail rig after building my buddies 84 pick up and what the rig can do and we're not even close to do with it for about the same amount of money and time I have in my XJ it will flat out kill it on the trails

If the yota had a worth while engine, I would have definetly considered one. But those 22r's are gutless as hell, and the 3.0 is a gutless, headgasket eating paper weight. (friends of mine owned a few, this is what ive witnessed)
Around here toyota's are hard to find, especially for parts. Which is something I personally dont like. They do fit bigger tires a little bit easier it seems, 33's are easily fitted with a cheap body lift.
Jeep 4.0 makes reasonable power imo, and proven to be very reliable (half the reason I went with the jeep in the first place). Feels more comfortable to drive compared to my friends 4Runner aswell. And its easy to work on!
