How is buying a used rig killing our economy it was built before I was born. Last time i checked you couldnt get a new XJ, and most of the new jeep parts are not built here any way. So i fail to see your point.

I loved my 88 yota single cab with a 5spd. It was perfect for the beach which is mainly where I go. It was IFS but it was unstoppable on the sand. I couldn't pull anyone out though.

The "BIG 3" failed b/c of poor quality products and labor unions. Ford has stepped up big time within the past couple years, but Dodge and Chevy still has some ways to go.

Besides my beautiful JEEP I also own a Dodge 4x4, a large one with a nicely built 440, I would gladly sacrifice gas mileage to drive AMERICAN!!!!!
That Dodge would kick any yota's a$$ no matter how you look at it.....don't bother arguing, you WILL NOT win!

I use to have an 81 yota pickup 22re slightly modded and it kick butt every time on the trail. Had no trouble with it except a clutch rebuild (understandable). The thing was bullet proof.
With that being said... the thing was gutless... had a hard time reaching 50 going down hill. the only time it had power was in low. Which it did have some awesome low gears. BUT... over all I love my jeep way more... It's versatility, cheap/available parts, and ease to work on puts it a few steps ahead of the yota for sure.
Not to mention the obvious stuff that has been pointed out already (IFS in new models, foreign brand, etc).
But the main reason is that yota's just don't look as BADAzz as the ROKEES'S

You're absolutely right! I haven't heard much on Honda, but yes...Toyota has had some MAJOR recalls these past couple years due to sticky gas pedals.
BUT, you do know that a good amount of the "IMPORTS" are made here in America, by Americans. Did you know that Dodge makes (at least last I heard) their trucks in Mexico and Ford made their trucks in Canada (they do manufacture in the USA too, but the other countries as well)? Just sayin...isn't it ironic??

How did this turn into jap vs american. As far as that big dodge goes, I'm sure it's better in mud bogs but have you been in a built yota? They are awesome on tight trails and big rocks. By truck before my xj was a yota. No full size truck could keep up with it in the dunes. And before you get mad I owned a dodge power wagon on 44" boggers. I loved it but it wasn't good for anything but mud. So all I'm going to say is who cares where it's made. If it works....and yotas most certainly do, then that's all that matters. I've seen yotas that could spank a lot of xj's butts on the trails any day of the week. Build what want and get out and just have fun. Why is this xj is better than.... Crap keep popping up?

Cause there so Awesome! (you'll have to forgive me, my husband has been on the road for almost 6 months now, and it doesn't take much to irritate me right now if you know what I mean) LOL

let's not pretend like we're all offroading veteran know-it-alls. everybody can judge based on their own experience. some have seen bada$$ yotas, some have seen bada$$ jeeps. compare it and argue with logic, not "my rig will whoop any yota, or any XJ"... because that's just childish... almost reminds me of "my dad will whoop your dad't butt" argument. both do great offroad... i just think the 4.0 is MORE practical on and off road.
