You're absolutely right! I haven't heard much on Honda, but yes...Toyota has had some MAJOR recalls these past couple years due to sticky gas pedals.
BUT, you do know that a good amount of the "IMPORTS" are made here in America, by Americans. Did you know that Dodge makes (at least last I heard) their trucks in Mexico and Ford made their trucks in Canada (they do manufacture in the USA too, but the other countries as well)? Just sayin...isn't it ironic??

UAW nearly bankrupted the US auto makers...that's why they build cars/trucks OUTSIDE the US of A.

Im 6 foot 2 and the yota is just too small. the steering wheel puts me into the drivers door because its too far to the left on the dash board. the yota motor is gutless and I blew two in a year and I dont drive hard. And to get the yota motor you have to order it from japan. I was stuck in a yota in just a few inches of snow and it seemed like the extra weight was keeping us from getting free. I like the jeep because the cost is low to buy and the big expensive parts dont fail. Also I can get a 4.0 for 600 bucks on CL all day long and I havent seen any yota motors on there. If you look at the years that the xj was made, only two years of that had the yota with a solid front axel and that has more flex and is better on the trail than IFS. I will never buy another yota after my experience with them but the xj I will buy as long as I can find one.

I have owned 4 toyotas, 2 4runners and 2 trucks. All where great off road and very comfortable on road. Quick easy little trucks to drive. American workers are building toyotas, nissans and VW's as well as benz so at least the jobs are here. For the last 8 years though I have only bought American... not just because the product has gotten better but I just can't feel good about what is happening to Detroit right now. Maybe you buying your 20 year old Toyota truck isnt putting someone out of work but It aint really putting some one to work either. This country was built on the backs of Americans and American products and I see more and more how the youth in this country are drifing more and more away from understanding that. That 20 year old Toyota symbolizes what our country has become and how it all began. So when you jump in that truck and try to justify it as buying it used or off some dude that you know and you didnt put somone out of work by buying it used, that truck started the movement that once did and still does put hard working American workers out of work in Detroit.

but honestly, I looked for a taco before I picked up my latest XJ, but those things retain their values very well. XJ's are starting to pick up value too it seems (as this is my 3rd XJ, and 5th Jeep overall).

I had a 93 Explorer, great on road, sucked off road. Had a 79 Dodge PowerWagon with a 440, load and fun to drive, but 8mpg sucked. had a 86 Toyota with a solid axle swap, it was somebody's project that I spent money on to finish up to drive, i sold it unfinished, but i did fart around in 2wd off road a little and it did pretty good. I now have a 95 ZJ, great on and off road and very reliable. My ZJ is my favorite out of the 4x4 vehicles that I've owned. I love the way a mid 80's Toyota looks with trail rash on every body panel. I also like battle scarred Jeeps, Hell, even a S10 can look cool with some Rubicon rash.

id love to have an old 80s 4 runner with a solid front axle, the 22res are good motors, just a little lacking in power, they are really torquey for a 4 banger though, my buddy has had a 93 pickup for a few years, yeah its got ifs which is trash but its still a decent truck, but id rather have my xj over one though

I owned (legaly my parents) a 95 toyota truck 2wd... thing was bought dirt cheap, and would have run forever. The vehicle wasnt a slow poke either, was the only car I got caught speeding in 78 in a 55 (I would have been fined more if he caught me passing the bus
I now own a fuzz buster). I had some problems with it but it was all due to p.o neglect (the brake pads had never been changed
). Moral of this story is undercoat vehicles, rusted right under me, sold it for 450 bucks.
Grandfather still owns his 92 yota truck, has spared no expense to mantain it, and will probably never buy another truck... uses his to tow is 30 ft boat. More than I can say about my xj. But im not going to be using mine to tow.
Would I buy a forunner? No
Would I buy a Toyota truck? Yes
Do I love my XJ? Hell yes.

Obviously youve never driven anything with a 3.4. The 3.0's were junk but thats about the only engine toyota ever made with lack luster reliabilty. The 3.4's are comparable to a 4.0 in power but get better mileage. Theres also alot more aftermarket support for the 3.4 than a 4.0

Toyota trucks=awesome. Foureunner=crap. I wheel with a guy in a bone stock 94 yota truck with the 22re and I don't ever see him lacking power. In low range he runs 3rd gear most the time. His trucks keeps up with/outperforms my xj in certain situations. I'd run a yota pu but not a yota suv! If his truck had a lsd or posi rear he'd probably run circles around me. Are Toyota's crap? IMO for the most part but the lil pu's 85-96 are dang near indestructible.
