you don't see it because those cars are way too fancy and expensive for what we like doing

You might try in the Grand Cherokee Tech section. Most people in the other sections have XJ's and that one is specifically for the GC's. Sorry this isn't more help but it's the best I can do as I don't know where they hang out. Good luck.

I'm a but of a noob to the cherokee world but here's my analysis of this site.
Most of these folks are fairly to very serious off roaders. If you ask them what they did to their exterior, you are most likely get, "scratched it on a branch (rock, bush, whatever youse encounter off road)" as an answer. Some of them have very nice looking jeeps but that's not why they own them, they own them because of what they can do.
That said, if you have a question about parts, repairs, or operating issues... these folks have the answers and they seem to come up with them quickly. I think it's because they've "been there before".
Back to the cherokee vs grand cherokee issue. It's not that they think the cherokee is better than the grand... it's just that the grand is a fancier vehicle (not a bad thing) but that fanciness doesn't add anything to what they want a jeep for.
I've read many positive things about the grands off road capabilities here, but I think the general consensus is, if you may roll it over, hit a rock, submerge it in water, drive it through mud... why do it in a more expensive car when the expense doesn't make it more capable an may make it more expensive to fix.
Lots of knowledge in here, but their a bit of a utilitarian crowd and the XJ fits that perfectly.
Just my 2 cents, you guys can tell me if I'm crazy.

Anything a xj can do a zj/wj can do also. The grands have a pretty good aftermarket but most stuff cost more then same thing for a xj.The main thing lacking for the grands is armor no one makes quarter panel armor for them at all,The zj has a bolt in cage but the wj has jack for a cage unless custom built. If you want to talk off road a grand will out flex a xj with its link and coil rear suspension it has.I have seen soon wj running jk dana 44s front and back,And there is a kit to keep the factory abs and lockers in them dana 44s.

The price of them is part of it a zj and xj are priced about the same here,A wj unless a total pos is 4 grand up range for a v8 one.I have yet to see a lifted grand at all here but half the xjs are lifted and kinda beat to hell and back.
