with an XJ. Can I do it? I am thinking of using a tow bar like the RVs use to tow their vehicle. Are there any restrictions/laws I need to observe? It will only be for about 60 miles and avoiding freeways etc. all the towing will be done in Texas.

i flat tow mine behind my RV all the time...it is my Toad thus me leaving it low and on 31's. I use a blue ox tow bar and base plate...that can get pricey but it is the best way to tow in my opinion. I can hitch it up by my self with little issue. a "A" type tow bar can be a pain to hitch by your self. I do use a brake buddy and would suggest you do some sort of brake assist as it really helps stopping. Here in cali you have to have a brake assist over 2500lbs...anyway RI may or may not require it so you will have to look into that...being that you want to tow with an xj i totaly suggest a supplemental brake assist ...Just put the transfer case in neutral and auto trans in park or manual trans in fifth gear and you are good to go....also in texas I see them flat tow TWO vehicles...i guess it is legal but man a yard sale could happen real fast when the middle one gets outta shape!...p.s. my wife is from Woonsocket

Oops, forgot to update my profile I moved from RI in October last year, was only there a couple years for school. My own Jeep is a 96 model pretty basic but I have updated and repaired where/when I could. Its looking OK now apart from some rust in the floors.

Tow bar or a dolly to haul an XJ with another XJ shouldn't be any issue if you stay flat and avoid freeways. Of course figure out laws regarding brakes and lighting in Texas.

As with any load over 2500 lbs make sure the XJ towing has GOOD brakes and keep it out of overdrive.

Make sure you have swaybars! We had to tow my buddies XJ on a dolly about an hour. 6" lift and 31's. Sloppy steering, no swaybars. It got hairy. The highway wasn't the worst part actually. Almost lost it going about 45mph when the XJ started swaying back and forth. If it starts drifting from side to side just lay into the gas to pull it straight
