I bought a MillerMatic 135 from a pawn shop for $350. IT was in very very good condition so I'd say I scored with that one!

yeah no need to spend all kinds of money for something that isnt going to be used in a full on fab shop. As long as it works well buy it. I would however discourage you from buying cheapo welders like the kind sold at harbor freight. Some may disagree but their duty cycle is usually very low and of course cheaply made. Try and stick with the name brands ie: Lincoln, Miller, Hobart, or even Esab. So shop around on craigslist or check your local pawn shops. Good chances you find a great deal. Good luck and let us know what you come up with

Home Depot Carries the Mig Lincoln Welder HD Pack - runs on regular 110V in the garage and has a decent cycle time. I've used it on my projects and have yet to hit the limit on it. Lincoln is a great brand along with miller and hobart

new lincolns are going downhill... right now hobart actually has better compact units than lincoln. the best deal right now is handler 210 with the spool gun for $949 at northern tools.
don't cheap out on something that's gonna make your sliders and bumpers.
110 welders weld about 1/4" with flux wire... if you don't have experience with flux welding, i'd recommend getting a gas unit. it will make it easier for you to improve your skills, and less chance for weld contamination...
you can run a 220 unit through a dryer outlet, and it actually uses less energy than the dryer...
get something that you won't easily outgrow...

This is a chat topic and not fabrication. Also, please use the search tool as this topic has been beat to death and then some.

Find a good deal on a used lincoln miller or hobart, then when you're done with it, sell it.

I got my Ironman 210 for 750 from tool king as an I think a or b model it had one dime size ding on the cover ...then I had to wire garage for 220 , but it will weld anything you stick under or on a jeep . As far as not getting flux wire welder and getting gas I'd get one that does both ,because you can't weld with a gas shielded set up outside in a breeze ,as it obviously blows away your gas shield.

Lincoln used to be a good welder till they sent it south of the border. Quality went down. I help out at a repair shop and you see a ton of them. Miller makes Hobart so either of those are great, Hobart is the cheaper version. I have an older Hobart Beta Mig 200 that is great but huge as well as a Miller Cricket that I use for light stuff and sheet metal.
