Hey guys, I could be running 31's, 3.55 gearing, and a Detroit Truetrac in the rear pretty soon. I have an 88 with the 4.0, Dana 30/35 combo, and 3.55 gearing. Just curious as to what you guys think.

Are you lifted and do you have an auto trans? If you do have an auto then the gears will be a little low for what you need but over all it's a good set up. I ran a detroit locker in my d35 and killed the locker before the axle. Good rule of thumb is that 31's are the largest that you want to go with the D35 axle.

Yep. For 31s 3.55 gears are plenty. Good setup. Not a big fan of the 35 obviously, but like others said should be good enough on those tires. I would personally still swap in a 8.25 as you could get one for dirt cheap. Get a detroit for that and you would have a truly awesome setup.

I have around 5 inches of lift and an auto trans. I definitely plan on an 8.25, 44, or 8.8 someday, but when you're 16 it takes a little longer to get to that stuff

We hear you. I guess if you plan on running it this way for a while i get it. the thing is that I have seen them on Craigslist for like $200. Once you get that locker in the 35 you obviously cannot reuse it in the 8.25. And its not like you will have any takers for a detroit locked 35 either.

i have 2 tj's with d35 on 33's.
one has 3.73 and the other has 3.07. both lsd.
wheel them hard for last 8 years with not one problem.
not too bad on the highway. the 3.07 tj loses 5th, but that's it.
