I paid only $400. Main issue was alternator, radiator, and fuel pump. Now it sounds like it runs on 3 cylinders. Besides that, was a great deal. No tears on seats what so ever. Found another that is already a manual, and is $650(1994).
1997 4x4 Country w/ 99K miles for $4K from my grandpa. They bought it w/ around 30K miles for an RV tow vehicle. That was probably around 2005. Still driving it now w/ 215K miles.
1999 XJ Gov't Service build. (similar to the Police edition option-wise) $ ? more than I wanted to.. gave 5 for it. But for a rust free XJ anywhere near my area of the country, with those options, and especially with only 96k on the clock... they sell for even more than that. Solid 4x4's just go for more here, they always have. So I don't feel so bad. lol.

Less than a year ago I paid $200 for my 2001 Cherokee, from the daughter of a friend. It had a dead battery and a stuck hood, hadn't started in over a year, and it had body damage on the right front. With a new battery it started after a couple of pumps of the throttle and turning over a few times. It's now closing in on $5000, and has been running well. There are still glitches to resolve, but I don't feel bad about buying it.
Hi, I paid $2300 for my 95 XJ Sport with 51,000 miles. Had over $3000 in maintenance a year before I bought it ... Does have a pretty good dent in drivers side rear Qtr.
Doesnt appear to be too tough of a fix..
96 XJ Sport, 4WD, 4dr, with 49k miles - $5900 - 2 years ago. Exterior was mint, but underneath needed a lot of refresh work over time (northeast salt). I overpaid a little probably (hard to say - not many comparisons here), but don't regret it. The low miles, perfect mechanical, and great condition body/paint are almost impossible to find in this region. People go down south and collect them and bring them back up to the NE to resell them. That is how I got mine.
That's pretty sweet looking... I have looked around since I bought mine, and they are out there, but nothing with those kind of miles... everything I see is 150-300,000 miles...That's why I went with mine, even though it had that dent in the rear qtr that needs fixin the low miles
convinced me to buy it... No regrets so far...
I keep seeing this thread pop up but I can't even start to explain how much mine cost me. All I can say is I inherited it at a huge personal loss.
I understand. That makes the vehicle priceless.
My XJ was given to me by my cousin last month. It's a 1989 with a little over 64K on the clock. It was originally owned by my aunt and my cousin took it upon her death but he rarely drove it. I have to admit, I would prefer to still have my aunt driving the Cherokee.
With all of that said, I have not enjoyed driving any vehicle this much in years. Why are these XJs so much fun to drive? After all, it's old tech. It should not be this enjoyable.

Yep, It was my younger sister's and she passed away far too young. I had promised to do a bunch of work on it for her and just before I could get this done she suddenly passed. So now I'm kind of feeling obligated to finish what I had promised her so cost is not an issue as much as dedication at this point. I got it for free but the real cost was quite high.
It's life, it happens, and it's just one of those things you can't put a dollar amount on. But sentimental value is another story...
My Daughter got this 96 Citron Pearl from her Popi when he passed away.. She always loved going places with him in it and he made sure it was going to her before he died. It sat for a few years as she wasn't old enough to drive. It's all fixed up now and she rides the wheels off of it..
Paid $ 2000 for my 2001 Sport just last month. 142,000 miles and one owner. Needed just a few odd thing repaired and tomorrow it goes into the garage to begin the change...
