Well, I bought my 99 XJ in Ecuador, where american cars are considered "imports"... the government puts a heavy tax on imports and prices are a bit high. To that add that a Jeep/4WD is very desirable on a mountain region with many roads that are not that good... I love that i can get over the speed bumps without slowing down, while Nissans have to climb sideways to get over them.. :-)
So 99 XJ auto/4WD with 230K KM (about 110K miles) went for.... $10,500.
And no, you can not export yours there to sell it, they restrict imports to under 3 years old. Sigh.

99 white xj limited, 187,000, all original, I bought Nov 17, black leather seats (with very little wear on drivers seat)1 owner, No dents except crease in hood(blew up after he opened hood and forgot to latch), undercoated when new so virtually no rust(if you look underside you can find a little surface rust on a few spots). It has a few minor things to fix(clock spring, drivers side heated seat, and shimmy at 60 on right wheel). My first jeep and I don't want to take on the trails. Looking for trail xj now. Having said all above I paid $ 3,500 and I love it!

'99 XJ Sport, Chili Pepper Red, 4wd, 5-speed manual, ~84,000 miles when I bought it. Has some paint oxidation, but no rust (Arizona-only vehicle). 100% stock when I bought it, pretty much prefect interior except for the visors (rotted cloth, speakers (two rear non-working), and lift gate struts (no lift left). My father-in-law was the original owner. He didn't drive it much and I tried, in half-jest, to get him to sell it to me for years. He passed away in January 2017. His widow knew I was always asking about it. She was moving and getting rid of everything so she sold it to me in February 2017 for $700.
I've put a fair amount of cash into it since, bring that number up considerably, probably to well over what I could ever get for it. But it's a funny hobby.

I scored mine from my boss.
96 Cherokee Sport 4.0 Auto 74000 orig. Miles. Wasn't in the market for a Cherokee but could not pass it up. Wife drove since new 2Mi to and from work. Was bone stock until I got my hands on it.
$1500

2000 XJ with 147K in 2013 for $1500.
2 owner vehicle.
Kind of running and not really drive-able.
Nothing crazy though.
Surface rust on the hood and roof but pretty solid otherwise for New England.
Stock and never wheeled.
Interior in decent shape.
More neglected then abused.
And I think I overpayed.
Was kind of a impulse purchase. LOL.

Old fart with a wrench
Okay, I'd never driven an XJ until I bought this one last year. I've been cruising this forum since 2010 and had a POS 97 ZJ until 2012 when I bought my 2000 WJ. I needed a back-up vehicle for my paper route so I bought a 2000 XJ in rough condition for $600 and only 125K miles on it. It needed wheels, tires, brakes, muffler, battery, and a bit of frame welding, but the powertrain is good. All I had to do with the engine was plugs, air filter, and clean the throttle body. The jeep had already had a new radiator and starter in it. The PO was only the second owner and had put a new oil pump in it because he got scared about the idle oil pressure, had heard about the 0331 head, so dumped it quick. The external body is swiss cheese, but the floors are solid. The frame needed reinforcement for the crossmember on the passenger's side and to repair the swap bar mount on the same side.
I've been DDing this thing for the past 4 months and have fallen in love with it! It's quick, nimble, and very stable in all kinds of maneuvers. Fixing up the body is going to require replacing both rear quarters and wheel wells. I'm torn weither to fix it or just drive the hell out of it. Chances of finding a good body around here is slim. This thing appears to have sat all summer without even being washed! The original owner had it up in
the Adirondacks and only drove it in the winter.

Traded a ounce of weed for a 97 xj country with blown engine, all streight inside and out. Paint was faded amd absolutely no rust. Had a rebuilt 4.0 ( less than 4000 miles)sitting in my garage from my previous xj that was totaled. Swaped all usable lifted suspension parts and other mods and bam pretty much a free 97 xj that basicly cost me just lots of my time
