The impact pin-balled us into the truck ahead of me. This is not a good way to shorten the wheelbase. It would have turned a happy 200k miles on our 15 year anniversary this weekend. My old friend saved my life and I was able to walk away. I often wondered if the airbags could/would ever deploy if I needed them - I guess I got my answer.
Glad to hear you're safe. Almost had to deal with a similar sitch in Boston on my way to the VA last week. Heading there again Monday. Hope the city drivers aren't too into their phones this time.

Had the fan relay stick on in my '99 XJ several years ago. I spent a week having to pop the hood and tap on the PDC to make the fan stop after shutting down.

Had a busy day with the '95 today. Removed the AC compressor, accumulator and the hoses to the evaporator, and installed the bypass pulley. Removed and tossed the hoses from the thermostat housing to the radiator and heater core. Got the valve cover, rockers and pushrods removed. Did manage to break both breather fittings though. Took the power steering pump loose.

There's something quite lovely about that picture. Can't put my finger on it though.

Today I pulled my transmission to replace the torque converter. This was the 4th time in the past two months. First three times I was chasing a leak, got a remanufactured torque converter in at the third time which whined like crazy, so today I got the converter replaced under warranty and now things are good. For now...

In the past 8 months that I've owned this jeep, I've pulled the transmission 7 times. Anyone want to know how to do it? I've memorized it, and can pull it in under 2 hours.

Sure. Do a technical write up. It never hurts to have handy. What trans?

5" of up-travel available? Sounds good. Many run much less.
I use 6" up, 4" down for my terrain (no rocks).

Yeah I run 3 up 9 down and wish I had longer shocks. You're fine.

Wouldn't that be 'shorter shocks' to get more uptravel?

I got really good at breaking down the front of the motor to set timing when I put my cam in. We are specialists!

Longer shocks = More travel.

I'll be extending the mounts on the YJ when I replace shocks so I can get more down travel. I'm planning about a 70/30 split favoring downward movement.

Not if you move the upper mounts higher. That's why I said longer shocks increase [total] travel. You have to move at least one mount to install a longer shock.

I see, I was not considering moving the upper mounts into the engine bay.

Well yeah. I have my bumpstops set and could get another inch of down travel if I wanted it.

I'm giving serious consideration to the prospect of getting another. More specifically, a Jeep pick-up truck.
