Hey Puddin! The front is a Nate's 4X4 here in Michigan, highly recommended. The resr is a JCR DIY kit that I modified for the fold down carrier. If you have a decent welder and some skills, it's a pretty nice set up. If you plan on doing a lot of towing I think I would weld in some extra steel and reinforce the tow tube though. I also wasn't real crazy about the safety chain provisions. But since it has dedicated recovery points and I won't be towing anything that I can imagine; especially heavy stuff, I wasn't too concerned.

Brought my XJ in to my mechanic due to some vibrations during deceleration. Says the front axel u-joints need to be replaced. Quoted me $500-$800 depending on if there is further damage or something idk.
What COULD happen if I didn't get them replaced and just kept driving on them?

If you have somewhere warm and dry and can follow directions you can do your own U joints for a lot less. Most of that quote is labor, the joints themselves are $15. Check this out http://wew.cherokeeforum.com/showthread.php?t=3689

What can happen is that when you engage 4WD, the joint explodes, destroying the axle shaft, and some people have even had their ball joints damaged in the process.

Sheesh. I don't have the tools necessary to do that. I don't want any explosions either lol. Thanks for the reply!

You might try the regional forums, there may be someone willing to give you a hand nearby.

I took out my shafts and brought them to a local 4x4 shop when I was having trouble. They did it for 40 bucks. Definitely check the regional sections of the forum. Chances are there's someone who lives near you that will do it for a case of beer.

^^^ yes if you are able to pull axles just take to a reputable shop and have them do it. I normally use a hammer and socket too but we have little to no real rust in the desert.
