To those of you who have installed frame stiffeners or other unibody plating, do you guys use weld-through primer? Does it help and is it worth it?
I'm not doing stiffeners yet, but my rear passenger bumpstop area is a little rusted. Both bolts broke when trying to remove it. I'm going drill them out and grind it down and weld a 3/16" thick plate to the uniframe with welded nuts on top to replace it and just wondering if I need to invest in this stuff.
Thanks for tips!

I've seen debates about it on other forums, just wondering everyone's experience on here. Do you have a certain kind to recommend? I want to order this up before I fix up my bumpstop mount.Originally Posted by XJwonders
I used it when welding the stiffeners on my unibody. It works. Other people would say it wouldn't work.

I used it on mine when I did my stiffies. No issues with it and I still haven't gotten around to painting them after almost a year and its held up perfectly. I see no issue with using it. I'm using it again for the frame mounts for my Clayton's crossmember.

do not use the 3M stuff. I bought it for some plating I did a few months ago and it made it a total absolute ***** to weld. I am a decent welder, but hey, maybe it was just me... I would go on some welding boards and see what some of the pros are recommending.

I went to my local paint store and picked up a can of galvanized primer. can't remember which brand since it was over a year ago.. but it worked great. I'm not taking the time to do it on my current build since I dont live in the rust belt. but I do recommend weld primer from my experiences
