The V6 Cherokee does exist
Found this at pick n pull today. It is an 86 two door in really decent shape. Had a 201 transfer case mated to a five speed. Hate to see it go. Hopefully somebody finds what they need off of it.

I think I had a 2.3 in a chevette at some point in the 90s. Not sure if it was the 2.3 but whatever was in it locked up. Might have something to do with the fact that I powerbraked through probably 4 sets of tires. Man. I wish we had cell phones with cameras back then.

My first Cherokee was an 86 I bought it for 250 back in 2002, it was my second or third vehicle I believe. When I brought it home it couldn't do more than 30 mph without sputtering and acting up. Brought it to my mechanic at the time and re rebuilt the carb and did a basic tune up and the thing ran great, although it had zero ***** and leaked about a quart of oil a day ha. I made several 3 1/2 hour round trips from Pennsylvania to the east end of long island, travelling through the city. It held up for me, oh yea it overheated once and I had to pull over on the highway and let it cool down. I had some water in my jeep at the time so it worked out. Then one day I was doing 40 going through a green light and some jerk turned in front of me. The only good part about it was he was driving a brand new blazer or jimmy and my jeep totalled it haha! Went out in a blaze of glory. But ever since then I knew I had to buy another Cherokee they are just so fun to drive. Even with all the problems my86 had, I still had a blast. Oh yea it had that crappy 2.8 v6 btw

Thanks for the mention Brandon.
The 2.8L gets a lot of hate. Honestly, I've had my 2.8L powered XJ made fun off so many times. Those who wheel with me the first time, shut up fast. Those who've wheeled with me, will tell you some epic wheeling tale of the 2.8L of Doom! It's got mad respect in my club and with those I've wheeled with outside of my club.
FYI, 85.5+ went to a large journal crank. The majority of the failures happened with the small journal crank.
Was the grille still there?
