Thoughts??
According to Allpar forum member MoparNorm, who has been a reliable source in the past, Jeep is dropping both the names currently attached to their mid-sized steel-roof SUV (Cherokee and Liberty), in favor of a new name that will be used globally.
The first vehicle to be named Cherokee was a two-door version of the Jeep Wagoneer, in 1975. The verison most Americans now is the 1984-1996 Jeep Cherokee, a completely new vehicle with a coil link front suspension, leaf springs in back, and a modified unit-body design (with subframes). It was redesigned twice; the first time, the redesigned version ended up debuting as the first Grand Cherokee, and selling alongside the original. The second time, it appeared there was still room for both, and so the new vehicle was renamed to Liberty in the United States and Canada while Cherokees continued to pour off the assembly lines. This only lasted for months, so the export version of the new version was called Cherokee.
The replacement for the Liberty is based on dimensions and a core architecture developed by Fiat and Alfa Romeo, heavily modified by Chrysler. Reports from Auburn Hills are that the Jeep people have been working hard to get the new vehicle to exceed the basic limitations of its architecture off-road. It will use a 3.2 liter Pentastar V6 engine and a nine-speed Chrysler version of a ZF automatic transmission, sharing little or nothing with the outgoing Liberty.

I wouldnt say they are failing......financially. But they are failing to listen to the AMERICAN consumers. Instead, they are leaning towards European styling and designs. But if I wanted a Eurotrash car, Id buy a Benz or an Audi, not a Chrysler, Ford or Govt Motors. American cars and trucks are supposed to be just that, AMERICAN designs to suit AMERICAN tastes. If ChryCo wants to expand in the Euro market, cool; but dont force that trash on the AMERICAN consumer.

I'm thinking the push for the 4 door wrangler may have killed any sensible cherokee being built again. Kinda how chrysler did away with the MJ so the dakota had no internal competition.
