I always get a similar one. "if you downsize your tires I bet you'll get better milage." my reply is always the same. "but then I can't park on your honda"

 

Oh I know, the exact words were "With all that mud and dirt on your jeep is no wonder those things are chick repelents." and my response was "ok the next time your Grandma car gets stuck in the snow I'm not pulling you out."

 

This is off topic, but I have to share this story because it fits so well.

I had a '77 Cutlass with a Chevy 350 in it. Needed power steering belts.

Went in and told the guy I needed X size V-Belts for a power steering pump (don't remember the size). He begins punching things into the computer and asks:

Him: "Alright, what is the car?"
Me: "Well, it's a 77 Cutlass but it doesn't have the original motor in it... so..."
Him: "Ok, what motor is it?"
Me: "It's a Chevy 350 but i don't know what it came out of, but i have the belt numbers right here, if you could just get me these..."
Him: "What's the VIN?"
Me: "The VIN won't matter, it's an Oldsmobile with a Chevy motor, I don't know what the motor came out of, can't you just walk in the back and grab me two X size V belts?"
Him: "Can you bring the old belt in?"

I walked out at that point and went to NAPA, gave the guy the same information and not 10 seconds later he was back at the counter with the belts I needed.

I've only met a handful of Autozone/Advance Auto employees that actually know anything about their job, the rest need the computer to tell them what to do.

Well look at it like this.... Auto zoo won't higher any one with with any experience with cars cuz they would have to pay them more an if you would of came to me an said you had an olds with a chebby engine I would of took your keys away... (: I'm an Oldsmobile man (;

"my diesal (Ram) can outperform your jeep and still get better gas mileage" so i replied, "youd better if you spent over 30 grand in a 6 year old rig while i spent less than 4grand on a 20 yr old one...." funny thing is his transmission gave out on him so he's selling his ram. My xj is still going strong.
