I have an '87 XJ, an early 4.0l, that was rear-ended this last summer (then stolen, but returned with no additional damage).
She runs like a top, with only 330k miles.
I've got a shop that can repair the damage, but I will also need to replace the tailgate. I was told that the equivalent model years for an '87 wrt the tailgate are 1984 - 1993.
I know that more recent XJs have been redesigned with more rounding.
Question is, is there anything outside the year range above that will work, or is that my limit.
And, are there any changes to the rear glass dimensions? I have a nice tinted window that I want to retain.
If I have to go newer, will newer tailgates fit assuming the taillight assemblies are replaced also?
I do see some tailgates within driving distance in used parts sites, but before I drive off to get one, I'd like to know for certain.
Thanks
J
