This is like the "shoulda had a V8"" syndrome. I am trying to make an identity for my XJ, so I have tried the performance route. But I can barely beat a 5-speed Civic from a roll and any new minivan would completely destroy my Cherokee.... Even if it was a 4.8 stroker, turbo, or supercharged a new Toyota Sienna minivan runs 14's. So maybe go the offroad route ? But I don't want to be like the V6 mustang/camaro owner modding their V6 and then having a V8(4wd in this metaphor) and looking back at how much money they wasted. I have been waiting for Aussie auto locker to get something in stock but it's been too long and I don't want to spend $500+ on a locker. If I had 4wd Cherokee choice would be easy, but I just don't know what to do. I mean I don't want to be one of "those guys" who lifts a 2wd.... Especially a Jeep, such blasphemy.

You have a couple options as far as I'm concerned:
1. sell it and by a car to go fast in, jeeps aren't made for speed. It is a box on wheels.
2. lift it and get a winch. 4wd is not really a necessity depending on what you want to do with it, the winch will get you unstuck.
3. you can convert it to 4wd if you want it.
4. sell it and buy a 4wd if you want it and don't have the means to do a conversion
