98 XJ - Interior Light stuck on, currently troubleshooting your input needed
Hey all,
I wanted to separate this issue out of my other thread and possibly get more quick feedback.
So the interior lights are stuck on in my 98 XJ Limited.
So far I have put a bulb in the passenger kick panel and removed the cargo light from the plug. (No key, dimmer to right of click.)
I did it with the tailgate open and closed.
I went to every door opening it and pressing the light button, no change with or without tailgate open. Also tried it with the cargo light connected.
The wires under the driver and passenger are ticked up tightly and snug. There was no play or change in bulb intensity.
I tried to mess with he dimmer switch since It had flickered in the past, no change in the bulb. Also squeezed all the door jam wires, no change.
I then removed the rear tailgate trim and removed the plug to the lock, light still stays on.
I assume I unplugged the right one.
Looking for more ideas, not sure where to go yet.

Took off the rear trunk passenger quarter panel trim and checked wiring coming to the trunk up the pillar. All looks good and solid.
Going over to driver door now..
Question, if i remove the dimmer switch would that cut the entire circuit or allow for me to test and see if it's bad?

Removed all 4 door buttons and light is still on. All buttons are 3 pin but only fronts have 3 wires coming to switch, rear has 2 wires.
Tried the key and rear speakers do not work now. The front's never worked.
Checked all fuses in engine and passenger kick panel, all are good.
Played with and traced wires in passenger kick panel and no change in bulb or stereo.

Thank's CCKen
I have had the rear cargo detached since the first test.
I have also got a replacement housing/switch last week for rear hatch and tested that clicking it on and off with no avail.
So far I have only gotten through the driver door, The speaker wire was broken and it's ground shaved. The speaker still does not play but it's also the factory speaker.
Solder'd it up as best I could and wrapped it up and moved to passenger door has a similar issue but just speaker.

I'm going to get back to it in an hour or so.
Does anyone know where the harness runs from the front speakers to the rear speakers. Also where it splits off to go to tailgate light sensor.
I thought to check those junctions for broken wires like the doors. Maybe try to get into the tailgate boots.
