stock tow hooks
Ok so I found some stock tow hooks on a older Cherokee country in the jy the other day and instinctively grabbed them. I pulled the tow hooks and the little brackets that they were attached to with the hex nuts on them (if someone knows what I'm talking about). So my question is how do I put them on my 98 xj that didn't have factory tow hooks? I know people have done it. I guess I need to drill new holes? Do I even use the brackets? Any help is appreciated! Pictures might help too.

Nope. I think those are aftermarket ones with the brackets (that I'm too cheap to get) for xj's without factory hooks. These are what I got :

Ha yeah. I found a thread (where the pictures from) where the guy got these hooks and he put them on and showed the finished product and didn't say how he did it. Commented and asked him how and no one has answered.

There were holes for the bolts and the bracket and it all fit together nicely.. But it was stock so thats expected. I mean would it be safe to just drill holes in the frame for the two bolts? That's pretty much the way it was on the jeep I got it from..

Would be fine for lite recovery, id cut 2 strip of steel and sandwich the unibody rail between them so the bolts dont tear into the unibody rail, along with some grade8 hardware should work fine... Some crossmembers and rock slides require u to drill into the unibody and they work fine
