Default spectre intake

Has anyone used this product? How was install? Was there any change to performance, good or bad?

Looks like something that would be a good addition to my jeep. But would like some input before buying it.

I have the spectra, It was so easy to install. Just remember to use sensor safe RTV if you get one. As for performance nothing to much if at all. I got mine mostly for ease of mind. I do a lot of water crossings where I'm at. They do make some noise in the cab, but only when you are on the gas hard. Here is a vid of how mine sounds

Ive had it for quite a while with no problems.... snow sitting on it/rain storms/river crossings. It works great! It does kind of sound like a wheezing vacuum when you step on it but I cant hear it over my Stroker/3" exhaust anyways. Worth the buy if you wheel in alot of water.

FYI, Advanced Auto carries these on their website. With the $40 off deal they're always running, I got mine for $119 shipped. Worth checking before paying full price.

Looking at the pictures confuses me, so where is the air coming from now? Where is the air filter and why is the end going into the firewall?

The filter is in the middle where that bulge is, as for where the air is coming from I have no idea either

The end is going into the firewall because the air is coming from the cowl. Look at the vents in front of your windshield. There's space down under there. To install this thing, you get a 3" hole saw and cut a hole through the firewall into that area under those vents. The end of the intake bolts against the firewall and sucks in the cold air that backs up under there at the base of your windshield.

The filter is a permanent cone filter installed in the bulge in the middle of that pipe.

As long as you run a gause type filter and not a paper filter. Not a big fan of the spectre for harsh environments.

I live in Alaska with wet and cold harsh environments. Ive had my Spectra for two years now without any probs with the filter. Yes I think the filter could be better. But its not falling apart or looking all ****ed up, doing just fine.. I just took a look inside my Spec after about 8 months since I last cleaned it. This is what it looks like.

I live in a wet environment, not a dusty one. So someone in a dusty area might need to clean more often .

This is the inside of the Spec before filter.

This is the inside after the filter.

Looks to be doing just fine for me.
