I'm about to buy a new sound system for my XJ. I did a little researched and found out that I can fit 6.5 speakers in my sound bar. I was wondering how much trimming do I have to do to fit in the 6.5 speakers?

Go measure the hole for the stock speaker. Then search the mounting hole for the speakers u want. And then u have your answer.

Yes the standard size is 5.25 for all Cherokee I believe. And how do I measure the hole? Just the diameter of the hole itself or the screw holes?

Put polk 6 1/2 in my 92. No cutting was required, just mounted them from the front and you can see the speaker grill. Had hoped to mount them behind the door skins but the speakers hit the door skin and sounded like poop

I'm putting 5.25 in the doors I was hoping for 6.5 in the sound bar I heard they fit but with a little bigger opening. I was wondering how much bigger.

Replace all my speaker on my 99. The speaker sizes are the same tho the mounting rings are different. It took a little trimming getting my alpine 6.5 in the sound bar but was easily done. If you have a drimmal get at it

I have 1" tweeters in the front dash, 5.25" in the front doors, 6x9" in the rear hatch, 10" sub in rear cargo pocket. Sounds great.
