the rundown
I've had two jeep cherokees but done no upgrades.
Crashed one into the back of a prius and the other...
Well I'm going to buy a third soon and was hoping for some advice on what basic upgrades i should do. Here's what I'm going to buy.
1990-1996 cherokee 4x4 inline six H.O. 5 speed 4 door.
All I know is i have an off road obsession and I know I want it to serve as a daily driver as well.
I don't really want to do an axle swap but is it worth it?
What are the basics I should do?
What parts are best?
How big of a lift can I have before I need a slip yolk eliminator?
Do I need to mess with my transfer case?
I just wanna learn more and get a general consensus so I can go do some basic wheeling. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may want to start out with a set of some stout bumpers and a loud horn.lol

You could start by off roading your xj stock and see what all it'll do stock to see where you need to make improvements. If your wanting a lift a 3" should be fairly simple to accomplish, you should be fine without a sye and fit 31s. Depending on what terrain you'll be driving on a set of rock rails and skid plates could be a good idea, also some solid tow points would be something to start with. If your looking to get a little more extreme then you'll want lockers and the sky's the limit on different mods you can do.
