Does anyone suggest a Radar detector? I live in a county where police are ever so present and I drive the highway everyday. Lasers and radar are used down here so any suggestion would help. Also, I'm a high school student so I don't have a big budget. Thanks a lot...

Anyone know which cobra exactly???
And I don't drive like a mad man. I want it to make me more aware more than anything. Usually on the highway I average 5-10 mph over. Down here, that's nothing. Most of the times they don't even stop you for that.
x2. I always drove like a madman when I was a young kid. Now I understand when I have kids in my car, how all the people I must have scared to death when I was younger, must have felt. Drive the speed limit. Not only is it safer for you, it's safer for everyone else on the road. Your time is no more valuable than mine.

Ok you cant tell me none of you have speeded lately....?lol I mean come on all of speed once in awhile whether we realize we're doing it or not, examples...late for work, late for dinner with the old lady, cruising down the highway not watching your speed, ricer cuts you off and you try to catch him...and the list goes on...so to some people the radar detecor is there to remind yourself to check your speed and not do anything stupid right then.lol A radar detector saving you one ticket can pay for itself so its well worth the money in my opinion, but there will always be that guy that says "just obey the law and you'll have nothing to worry about" when you can guarantee they dont themselves

I don't speed in my Jeep. In my TL, though...i'm just careful, and lucky *knocks on wood*. I've been pulled over for going 25+ over the speed limit, without my drivers license, and got a verbal warning. Just as a heads up though, by the time your radar/ laser detector picks up a laser signal, you're already done for.

But i agree in most cases you will be done for if your speeding, but in some cases your radar detector will pick up the signal before they can get you, like going around a corner or up a hill and they're on the other side(seems like the cops favorite sitting places) your detector will shoot out a signal and pick their signal up but the cops radar wont get your vehicle until its over the hill or around the corner in their radar, if all that made sense.lol But i also like radar detector's because they let you know if a cop is near to keep you from pulling a quick dumb stunt like trying to race a ricer or a friend or maybe showing off in some kind of minor illegal way(burnout)....not that i would do that or anything...

In my county, there are different phases of rush hour. I'm in the first phase (0700) which is pretty busy. Same thing coming home (1430). There is always traffic. If I have not read mistakenly, if a LEO is doing instant on, and I'm in a park of cars or further down the road from the targeted cars, won't the detector pick it up?
I bought the Passport 8500 x50 when I was a junior in high school and it still works great today. So 7 years of use without a single issue is well worth it.
But if your on a budget cobra is probably the way to go.
