Waste of money. Just like abs.
Do you stare at your speedo all the time? Most normal people check it every once in a while, but if there is a cop around that you didn't see, it's a nice reminder to look down again since the last check you did 2 minutes ago. I don't find that lazy at all. Even if you check every 30 seconds, I bet you check again when the beep goes off. Thank you very much.

No radar detector will help you if you don't understand radar and how cops use it.

That said, I use a Valentine 1. I bought it in 2004. They update them periodically so mine was not new anymore in 2008 when it broke and it was well out of warranty. V1 has a deal where you send the unit in with a credit card number and they charge you like 80 bucks to fix it and update it.

In mine I put a note that I did not want to send my CC number through the mail and they should call me when they get it. About 4 days went by and I didn't hear anything so I called them. The lady said the unit had already been repaired and updated and sent back to me. Later THAT DAY it came express mail. I didn't have to pay anything and I got a like new, arguably best radar detector, on the market.

Have not had any problems since and I was only without it for 4 days.

Yeah V1 is expensive but if one of those other brands breaks you will just be buying a whole new detector.

On a side not don't leave it out in the sun. I left my first radar detector in my car all the time and it fried from being in the sun all day. I tried sending it in but they said stupidity wasn't covered under their warranty.

So your gonna justify spending hundreds of bucks becase you need a reminder to check your speedo?

If I see a cop ill look again. But I don't need a beep to remind me. That's ridiculous.

Don't need to speed either. Got a sport bike for that, and I go how fast I wanna go, cops or not.

I don't care if he sees me first. Im not gonna be speeding. Speed control isn't difficult.

Where to begin......
My apologies.... I didn't realize you were perfect. Us normal people sometimes don't realize the slight bit more pressure we apply to the accelerator pedal from time to time.

Again, that's great if you SEE a cop, but how about those times when they hide and you don't see them? Happens to all of us whether you admit it or not. Ridiculous, I know...

Congrats on the crotch rocket... Going as fast as you want to go sure doesn't cause any danger for yourself or others... Cops or not. (is it just me or does that attitude contradict your whole premis of "not speeding" therefore don't need a detector?)

I DO justify spending $80 on my detector to save the hundreds from accidentally speeding and getting tickets. I understand that it isn't difficult to monitor your speed, but us normal people do make mistakes. Luckily since you are perfect... You don't have to worry about that.

That is all. (at least for now, I assume)

I bought one after getting a ticket (and subsequent loss of license), and its gotten me out of a few tickets, especially at night when you cant tell cars are cops. Word to the wise, if you buy one, if youre in a city put it on city mode.
Its worth a couple hundred bucks, as my ticket was a couple hundred bucks, plus a subsequent hefty insurance hike...

My attitude toward speeding has nothing to do with the fact that using a radar detector to remind you to check your speed is completely ridiculous. Cars have been around much longer than radar detectors, and society has been just fine. My wife doesn't have a detector, she's never had a ticket in her 26 year long life, let alone ever been pulled over.

Learn to drive, its not hard. You shouldn't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a radar detector to drive. Period. If you do, don't get behind the wheel.

Frankly, both of you: If your gonna argue about whose better at driving and why you need a detector and why you don't, start your own thread. My original post asked if anyone suggested a radar detector. NOT IF YOU BELIEVE IN THEM OR NOT. I didn't ask for your opinions on how you feel about using them, but no offense, nor do I really effin care. My motives behind as to why I want one shouldn't matter. It was a simple question and to sit here and bicker over the internet about "Learning to drive. If you need a radar detector don't get behind the wheel."

I know that. But I want one because when I speed it's out of need. Whether it be to clear a pack of cars getting close or to just over take a REALLY crappy driver. You should see what I drive in DAILY

You're completely right cf1k1. Sorry for thread-jacking you.

Alright... God, is it? Feel free to PM me if you wish to continue this. However since we will more than likely never agree on any of this and it will probably escalate to us calling each other's mommas bad names and threatening to drive north or south to come beat each other up because we (myself included) have huge egos and will never submit to the other..... I say we agree to disagree and forget about the whole thing.

Again, cf1k1, sorry for the b.s. headache. I hope you received the info that you needed from your thread.

Lol its funny this got brought up i was just thinking about this the other day
I just got around to getting my summer car out of storage for the first time this year as soon as i got in and started it the radar made a bunch of noise like it always dose wow i totally forgot i even owned a radar detector i drove the jeep all winter and was never speeding
It takes a lot to get this old box of a jeep up to speed and just as much to keep it their so speeding in it just naturally feels wrong and not to mention worse on mpg I'm already getting around 200 miles to a tank so yea but driving around my e36 that's a whole different story im almost always speeding everywhere not much maybe 5-10 at the most but that's plenty ta get a ticket where i live
Plus i do allot of highway driving and for me its hard to not go fast lol

I got mine from farm and fleet $38 it was on sale
Not sure what brand it is but it works great
My friend has a expensive cobra one and im just not convinced its worth the extra hundreds of dollars
My cheepo one works just as good imo
But he dose have the option on his to notify when you when red light cameras are present which is pretty cool but i speed i don't run red lights or even yellow lights for that matter so its useless to me

I really don't have an issue with anyone who wants one. I have a bike for a reason, I like speed. Im not gonna kill anyone but myself. But that's beside the point.

To try and justify the need to have one because you can't maintain speed is just dumb.

I hope you can see why one would feel this way.

That's all I wasgetting at.
