Default A Question For The Car Audio Guru's "Outdoor Speakers"

Hey guys I had a idea that I would like to try on my Cherokee. I am always camping and such with the Jeep and I thought it would be cool to mount some outdoor speakers on my roof rack and hook them into my current stereo inside the jeep. That way I could listen to music while hanging out outside the jeep around the campfire or whatever. Or maybe even blast some music while going down the trail for everyone else lol I currently have a Infinity stereo system installed in the Jeep. I have looked around at many different outdoor speakers available and am not sure which ones would work best for this. Has anyone tried this or had experience with different brands of outdoor speakers other places. I want something that is not huge so it will fit on my rack, has a decent sound to it and doesn't cost a fortune. I don't mind paying more for better sound quality but I don't want to pay like 600 bucks for a set of 2 speakers. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions or any reason this wouldn't work? Thanks for the help guys!

I dont know if this helps or not but I have a Volkswagon camper van and like you wanted some music for hanging out and camping. I got 2 6X9 speaker boxes and good speakers and left about 8ft of speaker wire on each so I could take them out and put them on the roof. Dont know if that will work for you but its a cheap alternative.

That's what I'm thinking is the best bet.

Actually, how I would do it would be to splice in connectors on the inside near the top of the hatch so I could move them to the roof outside and plug them in there when I wanted to.

I wouldn't trust marine speakers to be able to handle being outside 24/7/365. They're just not designed for that. If you truly want that, you would need an actual, full-time, all-weather speaker. And most of them don't really sound all that great.

I've been thinking of doing this when I build my roof basket. I plan on getting marine speakers and mounting them with military ammo boxes

Polk is top of the line before you get into very high priced speakers. Amp them as well and they will be loud and sound great.
