Iirc PA and OR are the only two states that specifically cover doors in their driving laws and only allow doorless if they're removable from the factory without modification (though Wranglers tend to get a pass even though you have to remove bolts for some reason).

The majority of the time if you're pulled for it it's because the cop just assumes it's not legal, but in most states simply having a makeshift rearview on the drivers side along with the windshield mirror will keep you legal.

Had a guy in the local Jeep club get pulled by VCU police for it in his XJ a few months back. VCU cops are campus police and they're all total fatass ****heads who didn't make the cut for Richmond PD. Last people on the planet you want to deal with. Long story short he had to sit there with the cop for 2 hours arguing with him waiting for a supervisor to come out. Still ended up getting ticketed for a generic equipment violation. Ended up winning in court iirc and turned around and sued the VCU police department.

and yes, I realize this thread got necro'd.

The only reason, he pulled you over was to check to see if you where driving under the influence. (That's a big money making machine here in Wisconsin) Also why he couldn't give you a ticket or a warning. there was no ordinance, stature, or law that would apply. Obliviously you had your seatbelt on, because you would of gotten an instant ticket for that. Just how many UPS Vans (or other delivery trucks), have you seen driving on HWY 41, dong 70-80 mph. With their doors open. Sitting on their barstool height seats, with a seat beat on. If anything is unsafe, that is. I would get copies of all state laws, and city ordnances just in case. But you might appear appear as a snooty know it all, upon being pulled over. If you pull them out then. Just be nice, take the warning, and resolve it later. I used to drive a 1960 Baja bug on the street, and I was getting stopped all the time. From having white blinkers (they didn't have yellow ones in '60, So I changed the bulbs to yellow) No hood, (it had the hood cut back to 1/2 its size. Exposing the motor) Several officers tried to tell me, Having an after market exhaust was illegal (It had a stinger exhaust sticking up passed the rear window, having 3/4 fenders was illegal, There was Height restriction on cars, not trucks, but cars. That there was a tire size limit on cars (I had 10.50/31's wranglers on the back and 5" wide on the front) All of which I got warnings for (but where dropped the next day at the police station) But the worst part was, I had to be nice to the officer. And listen to their poor interruptions of the laws. Otherwise it would have gotten ugly fast. If you ever get bored enough look up the website. RatemyCop. http://ratemycop.com/index.php?optio...tpage&Itemid=1 (I see the Milwaukee police are not as rated as badly as the Oshkosh police, most of ours are all rated poorly) Just don't mention this site to them as they have you pulled over. Some get real pissy about it. I'm not knocking all police officers, And there is good people and bad people in every profession. I have meet some good and bad cops in my life.

Sorry, I must've forgot to update this thread. Althought I was sure I did.

Here in WI its a "Trans 19" violation. But the letter of the law is very unclear, as our doors are indeed removable from the factory, without modification. Some just choose to modify parts to make it easier. And my modification is clean enough to pass as factory.

I have a copy of the DMV book that I printed off. I keep it in the truck with me, and I highlighted the specific part about doors.

I should also mention that I work for a very large Police equipment supply store, and 99% of the officers shop with us, so I know MOST of them. I've talked to quite a few about doorless Jeeps, and most say...well...its a Jeep! Its suppose to be!

Mostly the police just thought the Blazer must be violating some regulations.

So before you start building tube doors, check it out, and make sure going door less is really not legal where you live.
Yes check out the law of your state, becouse I live in Louisiana and literally they can stop you for any alterations to your vechile, the law states in Louisiana that a vechile that has any alterations from being stock is unsafe, including lifts are anything, I myself ride doorless and no cop has yet to stop me I know a few cops I asked them about it they said I don't see any problems becouse you still have mirrors, that I bolt on when doorless and I never got stopped yet but I guess the day I do get stopped is the day I say officer I didn't know it was illegal and I even asked a cop lol than drive straight home to put my doors back on.

What the hell is a Trans 19?

WI automotive laws are all Trans 28s and the subsection only run 1-15
http://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/code...code/trans/128

Trans 128.02 is the only subsection with a 19th detail:

"Unpaid judgment" means an unpaid traffic forfeiture judgment submitted to the department under ch. 345, Stats.

I can't find any statute that states a vehicle must have doors. In fact I can't find any equipment statute at all for private vehicles outside emissions inspections.

Calm down kiddo, no need to get all bent outta shape. Try looking a bit harder or something, I was able to easily find and print off what I needed...

Trans 305.19, I took pics of the copies I keep in my XJ.

I am calm, just couldn't find it before.

WI is even worse than PA. According to the same statute you can't even have the doors off a Wrangler if you have the top on.

Not sure why you interpret it that way, it says "except those manufacturered with removable doors" meaning if they are meant to come off from the factory its OK.

The way I see it, if it unbolts it can be removed. If its welded on, its gotta stay on.

Our doors are removable from the factory. It just takes 6 bolts instead of 2.

Every motor vehicle, except those manufactured with removable doors or without doors, shall be equipped with doors. Open top designed vehicles are not required to have operating doors when the vehicle is operated without a top.

I agree as far as unbolting them goes, just seems that as far as Wranglers go, legally speaking, if the tops on the doors have to be on.

i got pulled over with my old ford explorer and the cop said i flicked him off but he called me a ****ing retard bc he said something and i didnt here him i was in high school at the time in the parking lot of the school. he pulls me over about a block away comes out of nowhere. so i pull over and hes yelling at me to get out of the car before he is even out of his and he runs up to my door and slams my door open and starts yelling at me asking me if i want him to brake my fingers and **** and i was right in his face yelling back bc i hate cops that think there the s@@t. so he says let me see your licence and i gave it to him and he takes it and says have your dad come pick it up bc i want to have a word with him. i said i will meet you at the police department to pick it up. and it was right around the block from were i was so i went there and told the guy atthe front desk and he said let me get someone to help you out with this. he sends out the cop that took my licence now i was on the phone with my mom when he came out and she can here everything and now she was pissed bc the cop was such an idiot and didnt see i was 18 on my licence and i could get it myself. so he says you want to file a complaint on me then i will get the paper work so he goes in the back for like ten mins and come back with 2 tickets which were disobeying and officer in a school zone and emerging from a driveway without stopping. so i went to court and he was there i plead not guilty and explain my side of the story to the judge and she let the officer start and he started by saying let me explain to you why this happened and she stopped him there and through out the tickets and give him a 10 day no pay suspension. i was like wtf just happened lol and this is how i was when i walked out

but what i am getting at is that dont ever go down without a fight with these stupid laws that make no sense if you research and have a fight against it you have a chance to come clean

i just took my doors off and talked with the local cops as i work for public works and they just say whatever there i bigger and better things to worry about
