polley performance
According to polyperformance the XJ is dead they have no market whatsoever for the XJ. My XJ run circles around most of the JL and jlu's I go willing with . backstage not dead it's one of the easiest platforms to build off of I don't understand we're performance off road parts company is writing one of the best off-road performance platforms off doesn't make sense to me. Is the jlu such a better building platform for your money then an XJ people chime in, my XJ can do anything that any jlu I've come across can do
After you spend the $60,000 for a jlu, what kind of XJ can you have built, not only that but I have mine set up as an overlander was 6 foot 6 in of sleeping space after I take my table and recovery gear out can you do that with a jlu, if you do mxj right and improve your unibody it will go places a jlu has a hard time keeping up with

They aren't talking about the XJ capability. They are talking about the market. This last year I have seen VERY aggressively low prices on many items for my 96 XJ (both OEM and custom items). This alone alerted me to the fact that those with stock are trying to get rid of it for good, the demand is falling off. A few brand-name parts I've ordered in the last year had also obviously been sitting for a very long time (dates on original/inner packaging, condition of original packaging and plastic, etc), another sign that demand is falling.
-Some- people are still building XJs. But -MOST- people aren't, they are starting with newer platforms. Also the days of plentiful high quality, cheap, used XJs are over (not coming to and end...but over), that alone makes the demand for parts and mods go down.

Relevant as it may be off road, for a good example, most people won't pay 6k for a flawless XJ when they can buy a TJ, or whatever for the same price, that may be modded. It isn't the buyers market for an XJ anymore. I used to see really clean ones a few years ago for 2-3k, and now those are gone. I am lucky to have gotten the one I did.

I have parted out XJs for years. The used parts market has gone in the toilet the last few years. Why should I go buy more vehicles to part out?

It does make me wonder though what mine would be worth in northern states that have inspections. I have No Rust, no CEL, and its clean as hell.

Now that makes sense business wise.
As far as working at a business that sells little to nothing just to keep a few folks happy, no way.....

I also notice the price of some new parts is dropping way down for the 98 and 97's from my suppliers on ebay, like they're dumping stock. eg fuel pumps, hub bearings, ..fine with me Ill take it because to the OP's point if you get these old ones running like new they do rival the new vehicles and even 'run circles' around them performance wise. When Im on the road in my zj I get a lot of bewildered looks from drivers of the new Jeeps and you KNOW they just shelled out a home mortgage to buy them
I have been hoarding parts to a degree. Few Mopar parts I have picked up.
Certain things that I think are more important that they not be aftermarket.
Replaced my CPS awhile back and decided to grab another one.
Came across a brand new Mopar fuel pump for my '00 local to me on Craigslist for $150 and just said screw it and bought it.
That was kind of funny cause the guy had receipt for it from a Jeep Dealership that I used to do business with way back when in my CJ days.
And I did business with them cause I used to date the owner's granddaughter. LOL
Grabbed a new Mopar temp sensor cause the price was right.
The odd body or interior part here and there.
There are a few people who have done what I am doing now. Then sold the Jeep and sometimes you can pick this stuff up for a decent price.
I like my Jeep and plan to keep it.
It is threads like this that make me not sorry I am "wasting" money on this stuff.
Take the fuel pump for instance. Most people will tell you to buy a Bosch.
How many threads have you seen where people can't find one to buy and want to know what a good second choice would be.

I sold my utility trailer yesterday, and an old guy in a JK bought it. He saw my XJ and went on and on about it and that he would have one on a heartbeat and that they are classics. My first compliment from a fellow Jeeper
