Default Oops; The Mistake/Fail Thread

Let's face it. No matter how good of a mechanic you might be, you've messed up at some point working on your XJ.

This is very similar to the "what did you do to your Jeep today" thread, only it's about mistakes and accidents!

Let me start this off:

Today I was finishing my retrofitted projector headlight conversion by cutting into the metal header panel support so that the projectors would sit in flush. Problem was, I cut too far on the passenger side and ended up hitting my battery and ruining it!

When I replaced my radiator, I forgot the make sure the pegs on the bottom of the mech fan shroud were lined up and in place. Needless to say, the first mile of rattle from the shroud making love to the fan was too much to deal with lol.

You might want to give it another shot and put the shroud on. It's part of the cooling system and the XJ's run hot enough as is.

While changing spark plugs a huge arc jumped from my wrench extension to the XJ.... I then stopped what I was doing and disconnected the battery...

Left the battery plugged in while welding and blew two fuses. Couldn't figure out what was wrong for 2 days and it cost me a 40 dollar tow. lol

Put a Powertrax No-Slip in my 98, and it didn't work right. Not broken, just didn't work. Had to spend more money on a different carrier. Happy now. : )
