So no one uses a K&N filter? I've been using them for years and have always been happy. Compared to the alternative suggested filters they always seem heavier which makes me assume more solid construction and filtering.

That nut on the end adds a fair amount of weight. K&N HP-3001 is literally a Mobil 1 M1-301 with a nut on the end. IIRC they're a Purolator with synthetic media. The name costs you a LOT.

Based on what I'm reading on the Internet (all taken with a grain of salt) is that K&N is made by champion labs which is now fram filtration. They also make the Mobil filters.

People keep saying the K&N has a denser filtering material than the Mobil 1 but again, that's people on the Internet.

Fwiw, the K&N is about 12 bucks in my neck of the woods but my last 2 oil changes I've been able to get a K&N and 5 quarts of synthetic oil or $32.99 as a combo sale at advance auto parts.

The oil alone is about $8 a quart so it's been a pretty good deal for me.

Your name shouldn't be "Salad." It should be "Petroleum Product Guru."

Wow. Just got some serious attitude returning the "CCV" elbow to the dealership. Guy was all pissy that I didn't come to them first before ordering the part through someone else because now he has to keep the part instead of exchanging it with the supplier.
Not my problem buddy. You gave me the wrong part. It even said "With fitting" on the bag, and said "with orifice" on your computer when it was ordered. Should have checked the product before handing it over. Now you'll never get business from me again. Good job.

On a lighter note, jeep4x4center.com had exactly what I needed, and even the rear tube setup. They're doing free shipping on orders of $99 or more right now too. Sadly I only spent about $20, but I'll definitely be shopping there again in the future.

I took mine into a Jeep Dealer that the used car dealer told me to take it to so they could check the engine out. I come out to take it back and do a walk around on it and one of the fender skirts is bumped up. I go right back in and get the guy to come out and he doesn't want to come out and say I am lying and I'm getting pissed but keep my cool. "Look, I just bought this thing, if I want to accuse someone of doing something to get something fixed, I'll take it back to the crook I bought it from. This trim was NOT like this when I dropped it off, period. The mechanic probably bumped it with his knee, I want it taken back and fixed."

And they did so.

But they did not like it.

If they are going to act like that, perhaps they should turn away business and only service vehicles that they actually sell or are still under warranty.

I think I am still going to have problems with the original reason why I took it in there, but there is nothing I can do about that now except to continue on with the plan I have.

That having been said, unless I absolutely have to, I will NOT be taking it to a Jeep Dealer and certainly not THAT Dealer, EVER. I spoke with a guy that I met a few days after that and he has a Cherokee and he had taken it to the same dealer three times for a check engine light and they hit him with the service charge each time. On the third time they figured out it was the gas cap not sealing the system correctly and he asked for a refund of the two prior service charges where they couldn't find the problem and they declined.

People on here that refer to these people as "stealerships" are just about 100% right in my opinion.

I don't understand how those dealerships operate as a business. To antagonize (potential) customers like that is just absurd.

Not all dealerships are like that. There are some real Jeep dealers left that love their vehicles and love their customers. I'm always impressed with stories my friend brings back every time he goes to his local Honda dealership.

If I told you the crazy route that led me to finally going Jeep at the age of 45, your head would spin. I've been had by car dealers, used car dealers, mechanics, you name it. In my life I have watched them go from Used Cars to Pre-Owned and I mentioned that little bit of psychological marketing to my brother who is about a decade older and he remembers when they were just second hand cars or some other term.

I worked security for a used car wholesaler, the guy that sells to used car dealers. I can still be had after five years of that and took it in the *** on this Cherokee a little bit.

What I wanted was something that was quality and tough. I know I have to tweak it, comes with the territory. But as of right now, the only thing I am interested in owning is pre-2001 Jeeps. I've HAD IT with all the rest of the games.
