off road package
i forgot to mention that the jeep i just bought from my friend has the "off road package" which includes the 1 inch up-country lift, hooks up front, skid plate up front and all that...i wasnt aware that was actually a package called this but i knew it had all these things....but what i didnt know it had was limited slip in the rear with the chrysler 8.25 rear end...
i went out and tested it tonight at my work and was amazed how well that limited slip did...acted almost like a full locker when one of the rear tires came off the ground it kept all the power at the tire with traction...while most limited slips, once a tire has left a ground and there is all that stress on the one tire, shifts the power back to the tire of least resistance...
do a lot of the XJs have this limited slip?...i thought i knew a lot about jeeps..lol..but ive never owned an XJ...but YJs and TJs and ZJs and WJs..lol...
does any one else have the limited slip?..and if so, does it really do pretty well on the trail?

limited slip wokrs ok, but will typically spin the lifted tire.
run the emergency brake to help keep the limited slip "locked" when a rear tire comes off the ground, or when only one tire seems to have traction.
There are aftermarket limited slips that work better than the trac-lok, but even the best limited slip is not as effective as a real locker out on the trails.
The off road package definately had the limited slip, and in most cases, if the rig was equiped with a full sized spare you got the limited slip.

My '97 has the 8.25 / LS.
Just went over Engineer pass/ Mineral point (out by Silverton Co.) yeasterday, and had virtually 0 wheelspin.
Its not a real technical trail, but does have a couple steep offcamber switchbacks.
The factory LS did an excellent job imho.

When calling 3.07's regular, that is for 4.0L manuals...3.55's came regular in 4.0L automatics.
